Mobile internet services were suspended, prohibitory orders issued, and a large number of police personnel were deployed on Monday (June 8, 2026) for a major anti-encroachment drive launched by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), which has started work on a long-pending road-widening project on Nandpuri underpass in Jagatpura area. The 1.5-km road stretch in the south-eastern periphery of Jaipur, running parallel to a railway line, is being expanded from its current width of 25-30 feet to 80 feet. The Dehradun district administration imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in Selaqui and SIDCUL industrial area on Sunday (May 17, 2026), a day after a protest by labourers over wages and overtime-related issues allegedly turned violent. Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Krishna Kumar Mishra issued the prohibitory orders to maintain law and order following instructions from Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal. Workers at major industrial units in the area launched protests on Friday evening (May 15, 2026), demanding a wage hike from their respective managements. The protesting workers blocked roads and allegedly pelted stones, prompting police to register a First Information Report (FIR) and subsequently take several protesters into custody. According to an official statement, the prohibitory orders ban individuals from carrying weapons, lathis, sticks, swords, or lethal objects in the areas. It prohibits the collection or storage of bricks, stones, and materials that can be used for violence. District Collector Ashima Mittal issued an order under Section 163 in the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which deals with prohibitory orders for public safety, nuisance, or danger. The move comes amid apprehensions of an untoward situation, as Jalna and Ambad are considered epicentres of reservation-related agitations. Indore: In a bid to uphold peace and public order within Indore, Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh has enacted “prohibitory order” under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Code 2023. Any violation of this directive will result in punitive action under Section 223 of the Indian Justice Code 2023. As per the provisions outlined, no individual or group within the urban limits of Indore may host any event that could incite hostility between communities.
