Internet services suspended, prohibitory orders imposed in Jaipur for anti-encroachment drive
Mobile internet services were suspended, prohibitory orders issued, and a large number of police personnel were deployed on Monday (June 8, 2026) for a major anti-encroachment drive launched by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), which has started work on a long-pending road-widening project on Nandpuri underpass in Jagatpura area. An internet shutdown has been imposed for 24 hours as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of rumours and inflammatory contents on social media, which could disrupt the law and order situation. The 1.5-km road stretch in the south-eastern periphery of Jaipur, running parallel to a railway line, is being expanded from its current width of 25-30 feet to 80 feet. The anti-encroachment operation will also remove large-scale unauthorised structures which are obstructing public infrastructure projects in other parts of the State capital. The demolition drive includes the removal of five religious structures encroaching within the Nandpuri road’s designated boundary.
