The Mumbai police on Wednesday booked three members of a family who allegedly duped an elderly man to the tune of Rs 16 crore under the pretext of selling an entire floor of a building to be constructed in a redevelopment project in Bandra. According to the police, the accused – Mehmood Hassan Quadri, his son Fahid Mehmood Quadri and wife Bilkis Mehmood Quadri – allegedly conspired and promised flats to Farukh Parekh, 67, between 2007 and 2023 in the project and accepted advance money from him, but never completed the construction work. Parekh, a resident of South Mumbai, alleged in the First Information Report (FIR) that the fraudsters initially took Rs 4 crore cash from him between 2008 and 2010 and promised to give possession of a 2000-square feet flat on the sixth floor and the entire floor in a redevelopment project in Peri Cross Road by 2013.
