As many as 41.41 lakh ineligible ration cards were deleted in 2025, with maximum in Haryana, followed by Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, according to the government data placed before Parliament on Tuesday. According to PTI, about 13.43 lakh ineligible ration cards were deleted in Haryana, 6.05 lakh in Rajasthan, 5.97 lakh in Uttar Pradesh, 3.74 lakh in West Bengal, and 2.60 lakh in Madhya Pradesh, as per the data given by the Minister of State for Food Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya in the Rajya Sabha. Bambhaniya, in her written reply, said as an outcome of the use of technology in the Public Distribution System (PDS), all states and Union Territories have been able to weed out ineligible ration cards in order to achieve rightful targeting. It is observed with great enthusiasm across Tamil Nadu, and preparations are underway this year as well. The four-day festival includes Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Uzhavar Thirunal. Traditionally, the Tamil Nadu government announces a gift package to help people celebrate Pongal joyfully. An important announcement has been made regarding Pongal gifts in Tamil Nadu, bringing festive cheer to ration card holders across the state. Handlooms and Textiles Minister R Gandhi has confirmed that free dhotis and sarees will be distributed to all ration card holders, with the process set to be completed by January 6, 2026. Speaking on the matter, he said, “The targets for the veshtis and sarees produced for distribution to poor and needy people for the Pongal festival have been fully achieved. The production work was completed very quickly.” He added that the distribution was planned well in advance, and by December 15 all the veshtis and sarees had been formally handed over to the Revenue Department. From there, the clothes are being dispatched to ration shops in the respective areas. All necessary arrangements have been made to ensure that people receive the items without any inconvenience. The Thiruvananthapuram City police have intensified their investigation into a ration card fraud in which a gang, allegedly including a ration outlet licensee, gained unauthorised access to the Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department’s website. The group is suspected to have illegally approved nearly 150 priority ration cards. The Vanchiyoor police had arrested the licensee, Sahad Khan (32), who operated a ration outlet in Beemapally, almost three weeks ago. He was released on bail on Sunday and remains under police surveillance. Quick thinking by a ration dealer lifted the lid off the racket. The dealer noticed a discrepancy when a family of five holding a priority ration card claimed to have six beneficiaries. When he flagged the issue to the rationing officer, a subsequent check revealed a mismatch in official records. A detailed inquiry later confirmed that 146 individuals had been approved for priority ration cards without following due procedure. Cabinet meet: UP Govt sets aside Rs 179.42 cr to boost ration delivery | India News

The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday approved Rs 179.42 crore to give a fillip to the ration delivery system under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). The funding aims at enhancing the operations across the supply chain — from procurement to delivery and interstate coordination in order to improve the efficiency of the Food and Civil Supplies Department. According to the government, as part of the NFSA, eligible beneficiaries are being identified and issued ration cards. To date, over 3.16 crore household ration cards and 40.73 lakh Antyodaya ration cards have been distributed, covering more than 1.29 crore people under the Antyodaya scheme. The ongoing identification campaign aims at ensuring that no eligible individual is left out, a statement said. For the 2025–26 fiscal, funding has been allocated with a 50-50 contribution from both the central and state governments. He cautioned that the indefinite agitation would severely disrupt ration supply to the public and have far-reaching consequences for the State’s public distribution system. Concerns acknowledged Addressing a press conference, Mr. Anil acknowledged the concerns raised by the ration traders, including grievances regarding the Union government’s policies and outstanding commission dues.
