Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma | Photo Credit: ANI GUWAHATI The Mizoram government has decided to introduce special ration cards for low-income families that are not covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). Chief Minister Lalduhoma said these special ration cards, to be marked in red, are aimed at benefiting some 2,500 families or about 1 lakh people who have limited means. Mizoram has three categories of ration card holders. Those with yellow cards are covered under the Antodaya Anna Yojana while the blue card holders are Priority Households who meet the eligibility criteria set by the State government. The yellow and blue ration card holders are covered under the NFSA while the white card holders are not. Bhavnagar gets state’s first grain ATM for distribution of ration

Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Nimuben Bambhaniya, inaugurated Gujarat’s first grain ATM in Bhavnagar on Tuesday to facilitate round-the-clock distribution of ration under the public distribution system (PDS) of the Central government. Bambhaniya inaugurated the grain ATM called Annapurti in Karchaliyapara locality of Bhavnagar city. The grain ATM has been calibrated to dispense wheat and rice and has in-built tanks with capacity to hold 2,500 kg of foodgrains, an official release said. Those covered under the National Food Security Act can visit the grain ATM booth anytime of the day, punch in their ration card, prove their identity by their fingerprints through a scanner in the machine and get their monthly quota of ration, according to officials. The raids were carried out by different teams of the federal probe agency. According to officials, ED sleuths searched the homes and godowns of ration shop traders, a food inspector’s residence and a cooperative bank branch in places such as Joynagar, Deganga, Kalyani, and Basanti. “Raids were also carried out in Kolkata,” they added. The beneficiaries should have active domestic LPG connection in their name and the LPG cylinders which can be availed by the consumers will be limited to average of the last three years of consumption of cylinders by the respective household. After announcing the launch of the scheme from Tuesday, the Government had issued guidelines for the implementation of the scheme.
