It is the tallest statue built for Messi, surpassing the one in Kolkata, which was 70 feet. Aldo Beroisa, the statue’s 61-year-old local sculptor, told the Associated Press: “He is Argentina’s natural ambassador. For me, it was very important, not only as an artist but as an Argentine.” The sculptors made use of 70 tons of steel to make the statue of the iconic player. “That is not the first time a Messi statue has failed to stand the test of time. A bronze figure unveiled in Buenos Aires in 2016 was damaged by vandals a year later, with its head, arms and body stolen,” quoted the Telegraph. And the one in Kolkata was also taken down in May due to safety concerns. This move comes after residents complained that the massive structure appeared to sway during …

Due to sustained protests, the plant could never become fully operational, forcing the district administration last year to initiate plans for its relocation. Officials said a committee comprising representatives of the municipal corporation, Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) was constituted to identify suitable land for shifting the facility. Doubts cast shadow over KTR relocation project

Doubts cast shadow over KTR relocation project

Questions and doubts have been raised over the legalities of the relocation of 339 families from Kali Tiger Reserve (KTR) in the State, based on documentary evidence and official replies in the Assembly. Though the relocation has been described as voluntary and touted as a model, activists find it intriguing that applications of 99 families who had filed for claims under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) had been rejected. The fact that the Forest Department had rejected their applications for restoration of traditional rights under FRA indicates that they could not prove their bona fides and hence were encroachers, argue the activists. It was pointed out that in the reply to a question raised by Abhay Patil, MLA, in the Legislative Assembly on December 18, Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Eshwar B. Khandre stated that 339 families had been relocated from villages and hamlets within the limits of 10 gram panchayats between 2022 and 2025. He also revealed that claims of 99 families under the FRA had either been rejected or were still pending. The …
