New anti-government chants in Iran’s Tehran after rallies abroad: Reports

Some residents of Tehran on Sunday chanted slogans against the clerical leadership from balconies and windows, reports said, a day after Iranians abroad staged giant opposition rallies in Europe and North America. The demonstration comes after the bloody crackdown on protesters last month. (AFP) The Islamic Republic under Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was shaken by a protest movement that peaked in January, and which, according to rights groups, was repressed by security forces in a crackdown that left thousands dead. While the street protests have petered out in the face of the crackdown, last week, residents of Tehran and other cities began shouting slogans against the leadership from the relative safety of their own homes inside vast apartment blocks. In a new night of chants, residents of the eastern Tehran district of Ekbatan on Sunday shouted “death to Khamenei”, “death to the Islamic Republic” and “long live the …

‘Don’t abandon streets, Trump saw your bravery’: Reza Pahlavi urges more protests in Iran in new message

Iran’s exiled crown prince, Reza Pahlavi, on Sunday issued a fresh message for Iranians amid massive demonstrations and crackdown against protestors in the Khamenei-led country. Pahlavi, the son of the last Shah of Iran, renewed his call for protests in the country, urging people to “not abandon” the streets. The exiled Iranian leader also heaped praise on US President Donald Trump for his support to the people of Iran. “In particular President Trump, as the leader of the free world, has closely observed your indescribable bravery and has declared that he is ready to help you. Do not abandon the streets. My heart is with you. I know that I will soon be by your side,” Pahlavi said in his …

Iran is looking at freedom, USA stands ready to help, says Donald Trump | World News

President Donald Trump on Saturday reiterated the US support for the protesters in Iran. Trump, in a post on Truth Social said, the US stands ready to help Iran achieve freedom. Trump’s comments come as the protests sweeping across Iran neared the two-week mark Saturday, even as the country’s government unleashed a brutal crackdown. Iran has been cut off from the rest of the world for more than two days, due to a communication blackout, a tool the Iranian regime has used in the past to crack down on popular uprisings. Ali Rahmani, the son of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, who is imprisoned in Iran, noted that security forces killed hundreds in a 2019 protest, “so we can only fear the worst.” With the internet down in Iran and phone lines cut off, gauging the demonstrations from abroad has grown more difficult. But the death toll in the protests has grown to at least 72 people killed and over 2,300 others detained, according to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency. Story continues …

‘Ali Khamenei has threatened a brutal crackdown’: Reza Pahlavi appeals to Donald Trump amid internet blackout in Iran | World News

Reza Pahlavi, the son of the last Shah of Iran, has appealed to US President Donald Trump seeking his support and action in the country amid fears of a crackdown on the streets by the regime and its forces on the nearly two-week-long protests. “Last night you saw the millions of brave Iranians in the streets facing down live bullets. Today, they are facing not just bullets but a total communications blackout. No Internet. No landlines,” Pahlavi said in a post on X. Pahlavi has lived in exile in the US for nearly 50 years. (Photo: Reuters/ File) Iran was largely cut off from the outside world on Friday after authorities blacked out the internet to curb growing unrest, as video showed buildings aflame in anti-government protests raging in cities across the country. Rights groups have already documented dozens of deaths of protesters in nearly two weeks and, with Iranian state TV showing clashes and fires, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that several police officers had been killed overnight.
