The Delhi government has approved a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy that offers a 100 per cent exemption from road tax and registration fees for electric cars priced at Rs 30 lakh or less (ex-showroom), reported the PTI. The policy was approved by the Delhi Cabinet on Monday and will come into effect from 1 July. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government will invest around Rs 15,000 crore over the next four years to promote electric mobility and reduce vehicular pollution in the national capital, according to the PTI. She said the policy is a major step towards making Delhi a pollution-free city by March 31, 2030. Purchase incentives for EV buyers To encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles, the government has announced financial incentives for buyers, the news agency reported. This is a main provision of the draft Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2026–2030, released by the BJP government on Saturday. For most Delhi residents, the most immediate benefit is that any electric car priced up to ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom) will attract zero road tax and zero registration fee until March 31, 2030.
