Over 69,000 runners confirm participation for the Mumbai Marathon

The Mumbai Marathon, promoted by Procam International, is set to run with glory and pride for the 21st time this year on Sunday, January 18. The World Athletics Gold Label Race will bring together a record-breaking 69,100 participants including 65,400+ on-ground and 3,700+ in virtual run so far. Over the last two decades, the Mumbai Marathon has played a pioneering role in shaping participative sport in India. Two Indian Long-Distance Runners, One Boxer And One Wrestler Banned By NADA

Representative image.© AFP Long-distance runners Hemraj Gurjar and Anjali Kumari along with wrestler Divya Kakran, and boxer Thokchom Yaisana Chanu have also been penalised with lengthy suspension by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) of India. Gurjar has been suspended for four years after the prohibited substance Darbepoetin (DEPO) was found in his sample while Anjali Kumari has been banned for six years. Kabaddi player Manish Gulia and wrestler Omkar Shankar Chougale were also handed four-year suspensions for failing dope tests. Powerlifter Amita Devi Kotwol and a minor track and field athlete were handed six-year bans, though the details are not known. The decisions in their respective cases were taken on March 31, 2025, according to information provided by NADA. All these cases along with swimmer Vishal Grewal and 19-year-old athlete Mishthi Kajla have been handed punishments by NADA’s Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel in March and April after they failed dope tests last year and were handed provisional suspension. Long distance runners Hemraj, Anjali banned for doping

Distance runners Hemraj Gurjar and Anjali Kumari have been handed four and six-year suspension, respectively, by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after they failed dope tests last year. NADA’s disciplinary panel also banned 10 other athletes for testing positive for banned substances. Gurjar’s suspension starts from April 20 while Anjali’s ban period begins from March 31, according to the latest update on the NADA website. The 25-year-old Hemraj is 2023 National Inter-State Championships bronze medalist and two-time National Cross Country Championships title holder in 5000m. He also represented India in the World Athletics Cross Country Championships last year. Hemraj was already under provisional suspension after testing positive for prohibited substance Darbepoetin (DEPO).
