A district court in Maharashtra’s Akola on Wednesday sentenced 10 people to life imprisonment for the murder of Kisanrao Hundiwale, the state president of the Gawli Samaj, which took place in May 2019. The District and Sessions Court convicted Shriram Gawande, Ranjit Gawande, Vikram Gawande, Suraj Gawande, Dheeraj Gawande, Vishal Tayade, Satish Tayade, Pratik Tonde, Mayur Ahir and Dinesh Rajput, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said, reported news agency PTI.  However, the court acquitted five accused, Praveen Shriram Gawande, Mangesh Gawande, Dipali Gawande, Namrata Gawande and Sheikh Sabir, citing insufficient evidence. Hundiwale, an influential leader of the Gawli community, was attacked inside the Charity Commissioner`s office in Akola city on May 6, 2019. According to PTI, the relations between Hundiwale and some of the accused were strained due to a dispute over the control of an educational institute, and they had a heated exchange in the commissioner`s office before he was attacked, according to police. The Jannayak Janta Party-Azad Samaj Party alliance released on Wednesday named 28 more candidates for the October 5 Haryana assembly elections 2024. The two parties have also decided to extend support on the Rania assembly seat to former minister Ranjit Singh Chautala, who quit the BJP recently after being denied a ticket.
