8,000 acres to be acquired for industrial units in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: CM

The Maharashtra government will acquire approximately 8,000 acres of land for new industrial units in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar – the largest city in Marathwada – Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis announced on Sunday. According to news agency PTI, while speaking at an award function organised by the Chamber of Marathwada Industries and Agriculture (CMIA), Fadnavis stated that Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is emerging as the EV (electric vehicle) capital of the country. “Now I think this [development] journey will not end as people are demanding more land, which is less here. A land parcel of 8,000 acres will be acquired soon for new industrial units. Industries, too, are positive about coming here,” the CM said. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Divisional Commissioner Dilip Gawade has reviewed the work of laying a pipeline from Jayakwadi Dam to Marathwada`s largest city, an official said on Sunday. The project aims to supply 200 million litres of water per day to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, he added. Gawade reviewed work of the incomplete jackwell at the dam, installation of valves at eight locations as well as placing 2,500 millimetre diameter pipes at 10 places, the official said. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city in view of the agitations against Aurangzeb’s tomb and to maintain law and order during the upcoming festivals, officials said on Monday. Police Commissioner Pravin Pawar has imposed the prohibitory orders, to be in force from March 25 to April 8, an official said. Notably, several right-wing organisations have been demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb located at Khultabad in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. Amid calls for the removal of Aurangzeb`s grave, the police has stepped up security, making it mandatory for visitors to furnish their identity cards before entering the site in Maharashtra`s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, an official said on Monday, reported the PTI. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) staged protests at various government offices during the day and submitted memorandums for the removal of Aurangzeb`s grave in Khuldabad. In a suspected case of honour killing, a 25-year-old man allegedly pushed his minor cousin off a 500-foot-high cliff because he was angry over her affair, news agency PTI reported. The incident took place in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday.  The victim was a 17-year-old resident of Shahgad in the adjoining Jalna district, PTI reported. According to the police, she was in a relationship with a man from a different community, and her family, along with other relatives, strongly disapproved of it. When the girl`s family learned about the affair, her father took her to his brother`s house in Valadgaon, near Waluj in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, the police said. Her cousin, who is pursuing a postgraduation course in Pune, also disapproved of her affair. He went to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to counsel her, an officer said. The tourist footfall at Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) monuments in Maharashtra`s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, including Ajanta and Ellora Caves, decreased by almost 50 per cent between March 1, 2024, to November 30, 2024, data showed. As many as 50,50,071 domestic tourists had visited the `ticketed monuments` of ASI — Ajanta and Ellora Cave Complex, Bibi ka Maqbara, Daulatabad (Devgiri) fort and Aurangabad caves — from March 1 to November 30, 2023. The footfall of foreign tourists stood at 35,618 during this period, news agency PTI reported. But the domestic tourist footfall came down by nearly half to 24,94,570 and that of foreign tourists was 30,884 during the same period in 2024, ASI officials said. The World Heritage Site of Ellora remained the favourite destination, with 10,60,741 tourists visiting the cave complex. According to PTI, Jaswant Singh, the President of the Aurangabad Tourism Development Foundation (ATDF), blamed “negative publicity” about the condition of roads for the shrinking footfall. The police used `mild` force outside the counting centre in Sillod assembly constituency in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Maharashtra on Saturday after a large number of supporters of two rival Shiv Sena candidates came face to face during the Maharashtra Assembly election results 2024, an official said, reported the PTI. Authorities have decided to lift six gates of the Jayakwadi dam in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Maharashtra on Monday afternoon to release water after continuous inflow in the reservoir, an official said. The water stock in the Jayakwadi dam reached 97.3 per cent of the storage capacity in the morning owing to rain in catchment areas of the Godavari river in Maharashtra, the official told PTI. The inflow of water is still on, hence the irrigation department has decided to lift six gates of the dam by six inches each. Water will be released at 3,144 cusec (cubic foot per second) into the Godavari river, the official said. The water discharge may be increased or decreased based on the inflow. Currently, 500 cusec water was being released from the right canal of Jayakwadi towards the Majalgaon dam in Beed district of Maharashtra, an official said. The water stock in 11 major reservoirs of the state`s Marathwada region reached 85.39 per cent of the storage capacity on Monday, compared to 43.2 per cent on this day …
