Guru Nanak Dev University’s Ashi Chouksey came up with a near flawless performance to beat teammate and Olympian Sift Kaur Samra to clinch her fourth consecutive gold medal at the Khelo India University Games on Sunday. The 23-year-old, the 2022 Asian Games medallist, led the 50m final from start to finish and won the gold medal with a final score of 462.3 points, beating her nearest opponent by 2.7 points. In fact, Ashi had over four point lead over Sift going into the last four shots but registered two shots of below 10 in the end but that hardly affected her chances of winning the gold medal. “I was not focussing on the scores at all. I had won the gold medal in KIUG for the last three years and I was determined to not lose out on the gold this time. So I was only focused on my shooting and it was only in the final few shots that I paid attention to the score,” Ashi said winning the gold medal. Guru Nanak Dev …

From last place to gold, how Sift Kaur Samra fought back to finish atop podium

A few stumbling blocks arose for Sift Kaur Samra in the women’s 50m Rifle 3P final of the ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires. The first one was a rule change. Shooters in this event earlier got two minutes to get into the kneeling position. However, at the ISSF World Cup the time was cut to just 30 seconds. The weather conditions too were not ideal, with it being windy and cold. Yet Sift made a remarkable comeback to win her first individual ISSF World Cup gold medal. Shooting: Read what Asian Games gold medallist Sift Kaur Samra says went wrong at Paris Olympics | Sport-others News

Up until the Paris Olympics, Indian Women’s 50m 3P shooter Sift Kaur Samra always had a get-out-of-jail card in her pocket. She knew that if her prone and kneeling positions weren’t right up there with the best in the world, she could always just rev up the Ferrari that is her standing position scores. Be it her fifth-placed finish at the World Championships, or the World Record breaking effort at the Hangzhou Asian Games, Samra’s standing blitzkrieg would always soar her over some of the best Olympic shooters in the continent and then the World. But come Chateauroux, the poor prone and kneeling was followed by an even worse standing performance. Qualification came to a close and one of India’s favourites for a medal (she had won bronze at the Munich World Cup just a month removed) at the Paris Olympics finished a shocking 31st out of 32 shooters. Samra immediately came back to India and went to a range to put up a score. She needed to know whether it was the rifle that …
