PV Sindhu, Satwik-Chirag to headline India’s squad for the 2026 Asian Games

Two-time Asian Games medalist PV Sindhu and defending champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will headline a stacked Indian squad for the badminton event at the 2026 Asian Games. The 20th edition of the continental Games is set to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The Badminton Association of India (BAI) selection committee finalised the squad after reviewing recent performances across national and international tournaments, alongside BWF rankings as of May 26, 2026. Led by India’s top-ranked men’s singles player Lakshya Sen, the squad also features experienced H. S. Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth—all part of India’s historic men’s team silver-medal campaign at the previous edition. The men’s contingent retains much of the core that secured a bronze medal at the BWF Thomas Cup earlier this year. #News | Badminton Association of India (BAI) announces India’s squad for 2026 Asian Games Individual Event Men’s Singles (MS): Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty Women’s Singles (WS): PV Sindhu, Unnati Hooda Men’s Doubles (MD): Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Chirag Shetty; Hariharan… pic.twitter.com/7BQsySMxjF — The Bridge …

Sat-Chi reflects on lack of appreciation comment, ‘90% positive reactions’ | Badminton News

It’s a storm Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have now signed up for. Having willingly opened themselves up to the aftermath of asking why they don’t get enough appreciation, the duo reckon the only way to ride this hurricane is accept the tempestuous nature of reactions that will follow. The uneasy calm — indifference to a Thomas Cup bronze — has never been their style. So they will barrel through the wave of reactions that descended on them. Speaking to BWF after entering a regulation quarterfinal at the Thailand Open where they are top seeds, Satwik-Chirag grinned and paused a tad, to thank their fans. “Ofcourse there are many good people who stay up late at night and watch our matches,” Satwik would say. “There were negatives as well when we spoke, but more than that I saw almost 90 per cent positive reactions. That is a good sign.” For Chirag, the statements blew up much more than they expected. “There were obviously lot of critics, but there were also a lot of very positive …

Ayush Shetty makes it 1-3 for India vs China in Thomas Cup | Badminton News

Ayush Shetty makes it 1-3 for India vs China in Thomas Cup | Badminton News

Ayush Shetty gave the clearest sign that Indian badminton in the future will pivot on his potential, as he fetched India its first point of the Thomas Cup group tie against China at Horsens, Denmark. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty saved five match points against arch rivals Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang in the decider but could not avoid a heartbreaking 13-21, 21-13, 24-26 defeat in the first doubles as India went down 0-2. Lakshya Sen had earlier found the errors going for the wretched baseline, at the worst moments possible, as he allowed Li Shifeng to sprint away from 13-12 in the decider to flatline, 19-21, 21-8, 21-16. Lakshya Sen later told BWF, “Had my chances in first game. Started well to win second. Kept in mind to not give Shifeng easy short lifts and opportunity to finish. China was our first strong opponent. There was no pressure from coaches to win matches, because we had already qualified for quarters (on Friday). (Winning tournament is the target). We are looking to get into momentum …

India drawn with China in Thomas & Uber Cup 2026 group stage

India’s men’s and women’s badminton teams have been drawn alongside top-seeded China in the group stage of the Thomas & Uber Cup 2026, scheduled from April 24 to May 3 in Denmark. The former champions, the Indian men’s team, have a strong chance of reaching the quarterfinals. Apart from China, they face two comparatively easier sides in Canada and Australia. However, the Indian women’s team has a tricky draw. Alongside China, they will take on hosts Denmark and Ukraine in Group A of the Uber Cup. They will still be favourites to progress from the group alongside China, holding an edge in the doubles category over Denmark, thanks to a strong roster featuring Treesa Jolly, Gayatri Gopichand, and Tanisha Crasto. In singles as well, rising stars like Tanvi Sharma and Devika Sihag, along with star shuttler PV Sindhu, will be expected to deliver for the side. The Thomas and Uber Cup is badminton’s equivalent of a team World Cup, featuring both men’s and women’s competitions, with 16 teams each battling for the global title. Both …

India Open indicates hosts will play catch-up come World C’ships in Delhi

India Open indicates hosts will play catch-up come World C’ships in Delhi

New Delhi: 20 main draw entries, 0 in the semi-finals. Indian shuttlers endured a forgettable outing at the 2026 India Open, marking the hosts’ worst performance in the tournament since it was promoted to a BWF World Tour Super 750 event in 2023. When Lakshya Sen, the final man standing for the hosts, went down Lin Chun Yi on Friday evening a large chunk of the home fans vacated the stadium with a deep sense of disappointment. Sen’s own reaction summed it up. As he sat on the court with his eyes closed after a hard fought loss, a million thoughts would have crossed his mind. After all, this is the same venue he and the rest of the shuttlers would return to seven months down the line for the 2026 BWF World Tour Finals. But to be fair to Sen, he was one of India’s better performers in the tournament. Arguably, the only silver lining in a tournament marred with controversies. Fan favourite and India’s top women’s singles player PV Sindhu, who was fresh …

India will have 12 entries in the first round of the tournament, including Lakshya Sen, PV Sindhu and the men’s doubles pair of Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. The world no.3 Satwik-Chirag are the only seeded Indians at the tournament. They will start their tournament against the tricky Chinese Taipei pair of Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-hsuan. The Indian pair will be aiming to return to winning ways in Malaysia after ending their last season without a title for the first time in four years. Meanwhile, the young women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who made their comeback from injury late last year, will aim to give 2026 a stronger start. In the opening round, they will face the same Indonesian duo of Febriana Kusuma and Meilysa Puspitasari, against whom they suffered a defeat at the Australian Open in November …
