Lakshya Sen progresses to semis; Satwik-Chirag exit

Indin ace Lakshya Sen progressed through to his fourth semi-final of the year at the 2025 Australian Open Super 500 in Sydney, on Friday. In an all-Indian quarterfinal matchup, the 24-year-old got the better of his younger compatriot Ayush Shetty in a straight-game affair, 23-21, 21-11. This was the second international meeting between the two Indians after the Hong Kong Open 2025, with Lakshya now keeping the head-to-head record by 2-0. In a topsy-turvy opening game, Lakshya was pushed to all corners by Ayush, but still the former managed to edge past his younger compatriot on extra points. However, Ayush could not continue the same fight in the second game as Lakshya showed more precision and maintained a lead throughout the game to reach the semis. This will be Lakshya’s second consecutive semi-final after last week’s Korea Masters, but this time he will want to take this forward by winning against Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in semis on Saturday. On the other hand, the men’s doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty …

Satwik and Chirag advance to the last eight

Indian stalwart doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Malaysia Open, at the Axiata Arena on Thursday. The pair defeated Malaysian doubles pair Ayub Azriyn and Tan Wee Kiong in straight sets 21-15, 21-15 in just under 45 minutes and have made it to the final eight. Outside of this result, it has been a very disappointing day for India, as every other India competing suffered defeats and exited the tournament, including HS Prannoy and women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand. Satwik and Chirag have met these opponents previously in the 2024 Thailand Open, with the Indians winning that match in straight sets as well, and in quite a similar fashion, there was hardly a fuss in which ‘SatChi’ went about proceedings today, winning rather comfortably. ‘Looking to go as deep into the tournament as possible’ Speaking to the reporters after the match, Chirag said “Really feels good (to win). Happy to be back on court. It’s been a good start to the year, and we’re …

SatChi on a slaying spree as Indian pairing make India Open final | Badminton News

You wait for something for so long, and then it happens not once but repeatedly in quick succession. Like London buses, as the saying goes, India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated former world champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik for the third straight time after 8 consecutive losses. The second-seeded Indians defeated the Malaysians 21-18, 21-14 in 45 minutes to reach their second straight final on the BWF World Tour this year at the IG Stadium for the India Open. As a result of the win, Satwik and Chirag are set to return to the top of the world rankings in next week’s update as defending champions Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang, currently occupying that spot, lost earlier in the event. The match was set up beautifully in terms of context. After having lost 8 straight matches against the Malaysians, the Indian duo had won the last two, with the help of tactical tweaks from coach Mathias Boe. Both those wins came under significant situations as well. First at the Indonesia Open …
