‘So Cool’: Jason Segel On Reuniting With HIMYM Costar Cobie Smulders On Shrinking; Shares How It’s Different This Time

Jason Segal and Cobie Smulders reunite on-screen for the first time after How I Met Your Mother. Speaking to Variety, the actor spoke about working with Smulders in Shrinking season 2 and said it was like a “dream.” Segal further explained that despite working together for nine years, there was a gap in their dynamic.  Marshall and Robin, the characters, mostly interacted in groups and never really had a one-on-one bond. However, he described their reunion as a full-circle moment because the Shrinking characters were supposed to be meeting for the first time, but they played it out like something was going on.  “I think what is going on there, which is so cool,” he said. “We knew each other for 10 years in our most formative years, through thick and thin and becoming who you are,” he recalled. ‘How Lucky Am I?’: Cobie Smulders Reflects On Having A How I Met Your Mother Reunion With Jason Segel On Shrinking

Cobie Smulders and Jason Segel had a reunion on the recent episode of Shrinking. The duo played best of friends in one of the most popular sitcoms, How I Met Your Mother. Smulders portrayed the role of Robin in the nine seasons that the show ran for, while Segel went on to play the character of Marshall in the CBS series. Opening up about a brief reunion, the Avengers star revealed to have been thrilled over catching up with an old friend.  In conversation with Entertainment Weekly, the actress shared that she got a call from the creator of the show, and while she is not aware of what was Segel’s contribution in getting her onboard, she is happy to have gotten a chance. Jason Segel recalls his time on the sets of Freaks and Geeks, along with the conversations he had with Judd Apatow and the life advice learned from the executive producer. While sitting down for an interview with Willie Giest on the Today Show, the How I Met Your Mother actor revealed that Apatow’s advice helped him write the hit movie, Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  In talks with the TV host on the Today Show, Segel stated that “Judd took me and a couple others aside and he said, ‘Listen, if you can improv the way you’re improv-ing on this show, you can write.’” He further added,  “‘You need to learn how to do it, so I’m going to teach you how to do it.’” The actor went on to reveal that Apatow’s advice let him write scripts better for the projects following Freaks and Geeks.  The series ran on the NBC network for only 18 episodes, and the streamer cancelled the show even before the first season completed.
