Pimpri-Chinchwad Police bust illegal LPG gas refilling racket in Chakan, seize 251 cylinders worth Rs 9.71 lakh

In a major action against illegal and potentially dangerous LPG gas refilling activities, the Property Crime Cell of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police on Thursday busted an unauthorised gas refilling racket operating in the Chakan market area, seizing 251 LPG cylinders, refilling equipment, and a vehicle collectively worth Rs 9.71 lakh. Caught in act Police said they received information about the illegal action at Chakan Market in Khed taluka. Following the information, a police team raided the premises and caught the accused red-handed. The arrested accused have been identified as Prakash Siddhinna Jalagni, 32, a resident of Chakan and Tushar Prafulla Wasale, 36, a resident of Ektanagar, Chakan. The State Special Operations Cell, SAS Nagar (Mohali) thwarted a terror conspiracy by arresting two associates of a foreign-based terror operative and recovering one fully assembled RDX-based IED from their possession, officials said on Thursday. Those arrested are Mani Singh, 32, a resident of Gujjarpura in Amritsar and Abhishek Kumar, 28, a resident of Gillwali Gate in Amritsar. The Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, said the recovered IED, weighing approximately 2.5 kg, was fully assembled and ready for use. Police have arrested two persons and detained a juvenile after seizing brown sugar valued at over Rs 44 lakh in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, an official said on Tuesday. Raid based on tip-off Acting on a tip-off about drug trafficking activities, police conducted a raid at a flat in a building in the Pandit Pada area of Saphala on Sunday, District Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh said, PTI reported.  During the operation, police recovered 224.61 grams of brown sugar, valued at Rs 44,92,200. Cash, packing materials, and other items were also seized, taking the total value of the recovery to Rs 45,25,850. Accused arrested Police arrested Kudhabax Mohammad Sahid (38), a resident of Uttarakhand, and Heena Jamil Ahmed (35), hailing from Uttar Pradesh. The Delhi Police on Friday arrested a wanted criminal associated with the notorious Sonu Dariyapur Gang and recovered a pistol along with live cartridges from his possession in a swift operation carried out by the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of the Outer North District. The accused, identified as Aryan (22), resident of Prahladpur Bangar in Delhi, had been on the run since March 19, 2026, after allegedly opening fire in the jurisdiction of PS Sultanpuri. Both are changes in the existing law that the government plans to bring about through the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, which it introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. While the purpose of the amendment is to ensure foreign money is not used to fund activities detrimental to national interest, people in the NGO-sector see it as a continuation of the government’s strong-arm approach. A total 21,700 FCRA licences have been cancelled till date, according to MHA data. It is believed that many others have simply chosen not to seek renewal of their FCRA licences.
