Amid the ongoing LPG crisis across the country, the Delhi Police on Wednesday busted multiple illegal LPG storage and refilling units across the city. As reported by news agency PTI, the Delhi police officials seized a total of 269 cylinders and apprehended six persons in separate operations, an official said. In South Delhi`s Rajpur Khurd area, police unearthed an illegal LPG storage unit, arresting two persons and seizing 223 cylinders from the premises. The accused who have been taken into custody are identified as Hitesh Rathi (38) and Arvind Kumar (40). As per the officials, both of them were allegedly operating the facility without a valid licence or authorisation. 223 LPG Indane cylinders recovered The officials further said, “Police raided a plot in Rajpur Khurd village on Tuesday and recovered 223 Indane LPG cylinders, including 16 filled and 45 empty domestic cylinders and 162 empty commercial cylinders,” as per PTI.  Along with the cylinders, an electronic weighing machine and eight safety caps were also seized by the officials. A mega cordon and search operation was conducted in Kurnool district, during which 69 vehicles plying without proper documents were seized on Saturday. As part of ‘Operation Vajra Prahar’ against drug menace, the district police took up cordon and search operations at several places in the district. Drones were also used to keep a tab on anti-social elements during the operations. Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patil said officials from the rank of Deputy SP to Sub-Inspectors (SI) and other personnel were part of the operation. Extensive searches and vehicle checks were carried out at several locations. A total of 69 vehicles without valid documents were seized, and a bind-over case was registered within Alur police limits. Apart from enforcement, police also conducted awareness campaigns about the ill-effects of drug abuse and urged people to inform police on 1972 about ganja transportation or smuggling. In a huge haul, the Jeelugumilli police of Eluru district seized 598 kgs of ganja (cannabis), worth about ₹2.99 crore, being smuggled in a van. The police team led by Jeelugumilli Circle Inspector B. Venkateswara Rao and SI V. Kranthi Kumar, intercepted the van on Andhra Pradesh-Telangana border checkpost and seized the contraband being smuggled to Beed district of Maharashtra State, said Eluru district Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore. “Two smugglers, Dileep Kumar Mohanty and Janardhan Pradhan, natives of Odisha, who were transporting the ganja stock were arrested at the border checkpost near Tatiyakulagudem village,” the SP said on Friday (March 06). “The accused collected the ganja stock from Burugupudi village, near Rajamahendravaram, and police caught them on Thursday. We are trying to trace the other smugglers,” said Polavaram Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Venkateswara Rao, who monitored the operation.
