Case registered against SFI activists at Koyilandy college

The Koyilandy police have registered cases against over 20 Students Federation of India (SFI) activists from R. Sankar Memorial SNDP Yogam College, Koyilandy, who have been accused of beating up C.R. Amal Krishna, a second-year BSc student at the college. According to sources, Mr. Amal Krishna suffered injuries on his nasal bone following the alleged assault by the SFI activists, including R. Abhay Krishna, college students’ union chairperson, at a house on March 1. He was subsequently taken to the taluk hospital for medical treatment. But the cause of injury was explained as a road accident. However, Mr. Amal Krishna had to be taken to another private hospital as he could not suffer the pain. His father, A.V. Chandran, filed a complaint with the college principal and the police on March 2. Police sources said that they have sought a report from the principal. Meanwhile, SFI functionaries have claimed that Mr. Amal Krishna was involved in a ragging incident on the campus and he suffered the injuries during an altercation with a group of students. …

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on March 2 suspended the Vice-Chancellor of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) at Pookode in Wayanad, M.R. Saseendranath, on the charge of oversight and dereliction of duty that allegedly resulted in the torture, public trial, social shaming, and subsequent death by suicide of J.S. Siddharth, a second-year student, at the campus hostel recently. Speaking to reporters in Thiruvananthapuram, Mr. Khan said he had requested the Kerala High Court to spare a serving judicial officer for conducting an enquiry into the “gruesome and fatal” incident allegedly perpetrated by Students’ Federation of India (SFI) activists in the college. The alleged suicide of a college student at the Wayanad campus of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, allegedly after intense ragging, has put the ruling CPI(M) on back foot over the alleged involvement of activists of its student wing, the Students Federation of India (SFI). J S Sidharthan, 20, a second-year student of BVSc and Animal Husbandry at the University, was found hanging in the toilet of the men’s hostel on February 18. The case, registered as an unnatural death, took a turn after the post-mortem report mentioned alleged torture and wounds sustained by the victim days before the death. Twelve students, including his classmates and seniors, were suspended from the university, which acted on the report of an anti-ragging cell. Those suspended included the college union president, a union member, and the SFI unit secretary. Wayanad police on Wednesday arrested six students, though officers say SFI leaders are absconding. Blocking Kerala Governor’s vehicle: High Court grants bail to 8 SFI activists

The Kerala High Court on January 12 (Friday) granted bail to eight Students’ Federation of India (SFI) activists who were arrested and remanded in jail in connection with blocking the vehicle of Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and waving black flags at him in Thiruvananthapuram. The bail was granted on stringent conditions. Justice C.S. Dias, while allowing their bail petitions, directed them to jointly deposit ₹76,357 before the jurisdictional Magistrate for causing damage to public properties during the agitation. Other court conditions for bail included production of attendance sheets issued by the Registrar of the institutions they are studying in before the jurisdictional court quarterly and executing a bond of ₹25,000 each with one of their parents as surety. The court also directed the petitioners to obey their parents and attend counselling sessions as suggested by their parents. The petitioners were entitled to be released on bail in view of the fact that they had been in judicial custody for one month, the investigation was practically complete, and no recovery was to be effected, the court observed. Anusree and eight other activists for burning a massive effigy of Governor Arif Mohammed Khan using petrol on the Payyambalam beach in Kannur on December 31, 2023 (Sunday) evening. The Kannur Town police registered a suo moto case on January 1, invoking various sections, including Section 143 (unlawful assembly), Section 147 (punishment for rioting), and Section 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible), of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The SFI, on the New Year eve, burned a 30-ft tall effigy of the Governor on the beach. SFI district secretary P.S. Sanjeev had alleged that there was “a concerted effort to saffronise universities,” a trend the SFI vehemently opposed. SFI leader booked for insulting Gandhi’s statue suspended from law institute

KOCHI: The Students Federation of India (SFI) activist of Bharata Mata School of Legal Studies, Choondy, near Aluva, who was accused of insulting a statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the campus, has been suspended by the principal for an indefinite period pending inquiry. A video had emerged of Adeen Nazar, a fifth year BCom LLB student, taking a picture of the statue after garlanding it with a Christmas wreath, besides putting up a sunglass while also commenting that his act did not make any difference since Gandhi was long dead. “Adeen Nazar was prima facie found to have insulted the Father of the Nation, and he was ordered to be suspended indefinitely pending inquiry. The above student is not allowed to enter the college campus during the suspension period. It has also been decided to appoint an enquiry commission to submit a report for taking further action in this regard,” said the order issued by principal Seline Abraham. SFI has been staging widespread protests against Arif Mohammed Khan (File) Calicut/New Delhi: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan yesterday hit out at the student activists as he visited the Calicut University days after his vehicle was allegedly struck by members of the Students Federation of India (SFI) – the student wing of the ruling CPI(M).
