In a first, a Nihang faction participated in the Shahi Snan (holy dip) alongside the three traditional Sikh akharas at the ongoing Mahakumbh in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. Nihangs are a distinct warrior order within the Sikh community. The announcement was made by Jathedar Nihang Baba Harjit Singh Rasulpur of the Nihang Dal known as Misl Shaheedan Nihang Baba Fakir Singh Rasulpur (Ayodhya Wale). The event drew hundreds of thousands of devotees from around the world, all seeking spiritual liberation through the sacred dip, which, according to officials, proceeded smoothly. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been personally monitoring the situation since 3:30 am from Lucknow, his office said. By 4 am, 16.58 lakh devotees had taken the holy dip, bringing the total number of pilgrims who have bathed since January 13 to 34.97 crore. This figure includes 10 lakh kalpvasis and 6.58 lakh other pilgrims, according to Information Director Shishir. The grand spiritual event commenced on Paush Purnima (January 13), with an overwhelming turnout of pilgrims taking holy dips in the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj.  The floating chowki is an innovative step to provide on-the-spot assistance and enhance safety for devotees navigating the waters during the festival. A sprawling township has come up on an area of nearly 5,000 acres, ready with 1.5 lakh tents, 1.5 lakh green toilets manned by 15,000 safai karmacharis, 1,240 km long pipe lines have been laid, and more than 50,000 tap water connections have been provided. Two km away from Sangam, a huge space has been kept for parking more than 20,000 vehicles.
