The arrest was made in the early hours of Sarberia in Baruipur sub-division of South 24 Parganas district, they said. “Evidence showed his involvement in the road accident. We have arrested him and will question him. He will be produced in the court this afternoon,” a police officer said. Ward delimitation exercise in Kerala expected to be wrapped up by June, says Delimitation Commission chairman A. Shajahan

Shajahan, Chairman, State Delimitation Commission, has said. On Friday (February 21, 2025), the commission opened a two-day hearing in Thiruvananthapuram district on petitions/complaints filed by the public based on a November 2024 draft notification on the demarcation of ward boundaries. This marks the final leg of the delimitation exercise’s critical Phase-1 which covered wards in grama panchayats, municipalities and corporations. The commission had completed its hearings in the other 13 districts over the past weeks. “Once the hearings are over, local body secretaries will be given a chance to correct serious anomalies, if any, based on the field enquiry and maps, the Collector’s reports and the proceedings of the hearings. Shajahan Sheikh’s Brother, 2 Others Sent To 5-Day CBI Custody

Shajahan Sheikh was arrested on February 29 (Representational) Barasat, West Bengal: A local court here on Sunday sent suspended Trinamool Congress leader Shajahan Sheikh’s brother Sheikh Alamgir and two others, arrested by the CBI for the assault on ED officers during a raid in Sandeshkhali on January 5, to five days’ custody of the central agency, police said. Basirhat sub-divisional court sent Alamgir, Sirajul Molla and Mafijul Molla to five-day CBI custody, they said. The CBI on Saturday arrested Alamgir and the two others following a marathon questioning in connection with the attack. The agency suspects that these people were allegedly part of the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials and instigated a crowd to target the team when they went to raid the premises of Sheikh. Incidentally, on Sunday, officers of the CBI issued summons to seven others in Sandeshkhali in connection with the assault of the Enforcement Directorate officers, a source said. Bengal Guv Forms Team to Study Utilisation of Lands Grabbed by Shajahan in Sandeshkhali

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has constituted a team of experts to conduct a study of the lands in Sandeshkhali that were illegally grabbed from villagers and turned into fish farms, and suggest ways to utilise them, an official in the Raj Bhavan said. Experts in the field have told PTI that the topsoil of the farmlands allegedly snatched by suspended TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh and now returned to the original owners have become unfit for agriculture due to the draining of saline water for fish farming, and the topsoil needs to be replaced to make those lands suitable for cultivation again. They also opined that instead of agriculture, pisciculture would be “an economically viable alternative” on these farmlands. Bose, during his recent visit to New Delhi, went to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and held discussions with experts on the matter. ED raids residences of associates of Shajahan

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday conducted raids at residences of businessmen allegedly associated with absconding Trinamool Congress leader Shajahan Sheikh in connection with an old case of fraudulent land grab, a senior officer said. Raids and search operations were started by the ED early Friday morning at five different places in and around the city including Howrah, Bijoygarh and Birati, he said. “These raids are in connection with an old case of fraudulent land grab against Shajahan Sheikh and his associates. These people were involved in fish businesses with Shajahan. We are looking for a few specific documents”, the officer said. The ECIR is generally filed by the ED as the case information report. It is similar to a first information report (FIR) in criminal cases, he explained.
