The incident occurred when five people went to take a bath in the Ganga at Nifra village in the Vindhyachal area. (Representative image) The bodies of three National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar students, who had gone missing, were recovered from a waterfall in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Sarva Kritika (20), Sauhard Rai (20) and Radhika Kumari (19). According to the police, Kritika and Rai were residents of Uttar Pradesh, while Radhika was from Bihar. Reportedly, the students, who had gone for an outing on Saturday morning, reportedly fell into a waterfall near Harangajao village. Officials said that while one student’s body was recovered on Saturday evening, the remaining two were found around 12:30 pm on Sunday. Guwahati: After West Bengal, protests against the Waqf Amendment Act in Assam witnessed violence today. A demonstration against the new law, which cleared the Parliament a week back, in Assam’s Cachar district turned violent when a section of protesters threw stones at police. Security forces dispersed the mob to bring the situation in Silchar town under control. The areas affected by the violence include Chamragudam, Berenga and old Lakhipur road areas in Silchar. The protest rally started this morning and was initially peaceful. The protesters carried placards and raised slogans that the Act was “anti-Islamic” and said they would intensify the movement if it were not withdrawn. Later, some unruly youths joined the rally and started throwing stones at police. The cops used lathicharge to disperse the mob. Silchar: A 57-year-old non-teaching staff of Assam University Silchar (AUS) was arrested on Sunday for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old student in the university, police said. The minor was rescued by other staff members and students (Ht photo/ representational photo) According to the girl’s family, the minor went to Assam’s Gauhati Medical College & Hospital on Thursday night to visit a patient with a relative, who is a cleaning staff member at the university. On Friday morning, the relative had to report for duty at the university and asked the girl to wait while he finished his work. “She was waiting outside an empty classroom in the department of law when the accused allegedly dragged her inside the classroom and tried to rape her. She was rescued by other staff members and students,” a family member said. Final-Year Medical Student Dies By Suicide In Assam

Two notes were recovered from the student’s room. Guwahati: A final-year medical student was found hanging from the ceiling of his house in Assam’s Silchar on Tuesday night. The 24-year-old was pursuing MBBS from Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Police said the student hanged himself at his residence in Tarapur around 10 pm and officials reached the spot half an hour later.  Two notes were recovered from the student’s room in which he stated that he was depressed and sought his mother’s forgiveness. “Mother, forgive me. I am leaving you today. I am unable to handle the depression and I feel a pain near my chest…” said one of the notes. In the second note, the student wrote, “I am willingly committing suicide, nobody is responsible for my suicide.” An official said that while the student’s family members have confirmed that the handwriting in the notes matches his, they will still get them verified by experts. “Prima facie, it appears to be a case of death by suicide,” said a police official. CUET UG 2024: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the rescheduled CUET UG 2024 exam at Delhi, Silchar among other centres today i.e. on May 29. The NTA has rescheduled the CUET UG 2024 exams for May 15 at the Delhi center and May 24 for Silchar candidates to May 29, 2024. Apart from this, due to unavoidable circumstances at some Centres in UP’s Kanpur, Bihar’s Siwan, MP’s Indore, Goa, the examination of the affected candidates will also be conducted today.  NTA had rescheduled CUET UG 2024 for the Kanpur centre as the wrong CUET question paper was distributed at the exam centre.
