Imran Khan’s sister moves Pak court challenging his ‘solitary confinement’

Islamabad, Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan’s sister moved the Islamabad High Court, challenging his “prolonged solitary confinement” at Adiala Jail, calling it illegal and a violation of fundamental rights, according to a media report on Friday. Imran Khan’s sister moves Pak court challenging his ‘solitary confinement’ Aleema Khan filed the writ petition in the high court on Thursday, the Dawn newspaper reported. The petitioner argued that no court had sentenced the 74-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder to solitary confinement in either the Al-Qadir Trust case or the Toshakhana-II case. It alleged that jail authorities had kept him in isolation for approximately 22 hours daily over the last six months without any legal sanction. Citing the Pakistan Penal Code and the Pakistan Prisons Rules, the petition stated that solitary confinement could only be awarded by a court and could not exceed 14 days at a time. The petition termed the “prolonged isolation” as “patently illegal, devoid of lawful authority, and amounting to inhuman and degrading treatment”. The petition further alleged that Khan had lost 85 per …

Alabama inmate activists from an Oscar-nominated film are moved to solitary, attorneys say

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama prison system has moved three well-known inmate activists who supported a 2022 prison strike and were featured in an Oscar-nominated documentary about the troubled system to isolated cells with little contact with others, family members and attorneys said. Alabama inmate activists from an Oscar-nominated film are moved to solitary, attorneys say Family members of the three men said they fear for their loved ones’ safety and are concerned the moves to solitary confinement are a form of retaliation for outspokenness about problems within the prison system. Robert Earl Council, Melvin Ray and Raoul Poole were transferred two weeks ago from their existing prisons to solitary confinement at Kilby Correctional Facility outside Montgomery, Alabama, their lawyers said. The transfers come as some groups have encouraged a new prison labor strike this year. “This is straight-up retaliation,” said Julie Sledd, who is close to Poole and spoke to The Associated Press about his situation. “They’ve all three been very involved in standing up for the rights of incarcerated citizens.” Council, Ray and …

India Open badminton: Lakshya Sen, the solitary Indian winner; after this crucial technical switch mid-match | Badminton News

Lakshya Sen took his time to get over the missed bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. But since the second half of 2025, there is a spring in his step. The results have still been up and down, but the performances have picked up. On Thursday, after his second-round win at the India Open Super 750, when asked if he is in a better space than he has been in recent times, he responded with a big smile. “I think everyone agrees to that. Yeah, I’m in a much better space. Definitely, in terms of my game. And I’m enjoying badminton much more, I guess.” Is he doing anything off court that is helping him relax? “I am not going to tell you that,” he added with a chuckle. A lighter, freer Lakshya took time to get going against world No 13 Kenta Nishimoto but a tactical tweak halfway through the opening game turned it around for him as he beat the Japanese 21-19, 21-10 in 50 minutes. On an otherwise bleak day for home …

Alexander Hendrickx’s solitary goal helps Lancers maintain unbeaten run | Hockey News

A solitary goal by Belgian Alexander Hendrickx (40th minute) was enough for leaders Vedanta Kalinga Lancers to secure a win over Hyderabad Toofans and continue their unbeaten run in the eight-team Hockey India League in Ranchi on Wednesday. Lancers, who had finished sixth last season, had needed a shootout to prevail over Hockey India GC in their last encounter on Sunday, but got the job done in regulation time on this occasion. Lancers now have 11 points from four matches. They went into Wednesday’s match with a clear intent of taking an early lead. While Toofans had more ball possession in the opening quarter, Lancers had the only attempt on goal with Australian Liam Henderson’s shot being saved by German goalkeeper Jean-Paul Danneberg. Toofans had more of the ball in the second period as well and made 12 circle entries compared to Lancer’s seven. But Henderson once again came close to breaking the deadlock when his shot hit the post. Prior to Wednesday’s game, Lancers had conceded only three goals in the tournament and the …

NASA Hubble Space Telescope Helps Confirm the First Solitary Black Hole

For the first time, the existence of a lone black hole has been confirmed by scientists. This black hole has no star orbiting it. According to the statement by Kailash Sahu, astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, “it’s the only one so far”. The discovery made headlines in the year 2022, when Sahu and his Team claimed a dark object was moving through the constellation Sagittarius. However, another team of researchers disputed the claims by identifying the object as a neutron star. About the Discovery This discovery came into the light three years ago. All the stellar-mass black holes are accompanied by stars that betray their presence and race around an invisible star, along with three times the sun’s mass. Such a procedure indicates the presence of black holes rather than a neutron star. On the contrary, the solitary black holes are expected to be common, but are very hard to find. Likewise, the one in Sagittarius was identified while passing through the dim background star and additionally shifting its position due …

Solitary Dolphin in Baltic Sea Talks to Himself, Researchers Think it’s a Sign of Loneliness

Solitary Dolphin in Baltic Sea Talks to Himself, Researchers Think it’s a Sign of Loneliness

A bottlenose dolphin residing alone in the Baltic Sea has been documented producing thousands of vocalisations, potentially as a result of loneliness. Known locally as Delle, this dolphin was first noticed in the Svendborgsund channel near Funen Island, Denmark, in 2019. Bottlenose dolphins typically thrive in social pods, but no other dolphins have been seen in the area. The University of Southern Denmark deployed underwater recorders to monitor the impact of Delle’s presence on local harbour porpoises. Unexpectedly, 10,833 sounds were recorded over 69 days between December 8, 2022, and February 14, 2023. Dr Olga Filatova, cetacean biologist and lead researcher, reported hearing an extensive range of sounds, including whistles and tonal noises. These sounds are often associated with social interactions among dolphins, yet Delle was entirely alone. Unpacking the Recordings Among the captured vocalisations were 2,291 whistles and 2,288 burst-pulses—clicks often linked to aggression or excitement. Delle also produced three distinctive whistles resembling “signature whistles”, unique sounds used by dolphins as individual identifiers. These findings, detailed in the journal Bioacoustics on October 31, led …

Realised what it meant to be alone in solitary confinement: Jain

Back home after spending more than two years behind bars, AAP leader Satyendar Jain says he battled loneliness during his time in jail and often longed to talk to someone while he was in solitary confinement in an 8×8 foot cell. In an interview with PTI Videos on Tuesday, the former Delhi minister said he turned to books to fill his time. Now, Jain plans to write a book on his time in prison which will be titled `Mohalla Clinic and Beyond`. Jain, who was among the first AAP leaders to be arrested in different cases, says despite the party`s leadership being jailed in “false cases”, the BJP has been unable to dent its image. The AAP remains committed to fighting corruption and working for the betterment of people, he said. Jain walked out of Tihar Jail on October 18 after a Delhi court granted him bail in a money laundering case. He was hugged by senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia as he walked out of prison and greeted by hundreds of excited party workers. …

Vinith Venkatesh’s Solitary Goal On ISL Debut Helps Bengaluru FC Edge Past East Bengal

Bengaluru FC started their Indian Super League campaign with a 1-0 win over East Bengal with 19-year-old Vinith Venkatesh scoring in his debut match on Saturday. Venkatesh’s 25th-minute strike was the difference between the two teams. It was a fairytale ISL debut for Bengaluru FC academy graduate Venkatesh. He showed glimpses of his brilliance in the recently concluded Durand Cup and carried that momentum into the new ISL season. It was a cagey start from both sides with plenty of tackles flying in, mostly to disrupt the momentum. Nandha Kumar was guilty of a mis-timed challenge in the third minute when he brought down Suresh Wangjam. The East Bengal FC winger received a yellow card for his reckless tackle. Despite the caution, tackles kept flying as Lalchungnunga and later Hector Yuste also joined Nandha into the referee’s book. The first real opportunity of the game came when Jeakson Singh collected a loose ball outside the penalty area. He launched a thumping effort towards the goal, forcing Gurpreet Singh Sandhu to come up with …

On CEC’s solitary vigil, SC had said ‘two heads better than one’

The Supreme Court, in S.S. Dhanoa versus Union of India, said one person at the helm of the powerful poll body was against the “tenets of …

India Open Super 750: Satwik-Chirag the solitary Indian winners on second day, Srikanth pays for unforced errors in early exit | Badminton News

The host country’s only winners on the second day of the India Open Super 750 were the in-form Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and even that didn’t come easy. The World No 2, who only reached India late on Monday night after their runner-up finish at the Malaysia Open last week, brushed off some rustiness and lack of practice at the main court of the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi on Wednesday to defeat Chinese Taipei identical twins Fang-Chih Lee and Fang-Jen Lee. Satwik-Chirag registered a 21-15, 19-21, 21-16 win to reach the second round at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. The significant disappointment of the day was a first-round exit for Srikanth Kidambi, who looked to be in control of proceedings at one stage, leading 17-14 in the opening game against world No 18 Lee Cheuk Yiu. Usually not the most expressive of characters on the court unless he has to dig in deep, Srikanth seemed up for the task from the word go. Buoyed on by chants like “Hamara Player Kaisa …
