Four people were killed and eight others injured after a BEST bus ran over pedestrians on the crowded Station Road in Bhandup West late Monday night, triggering scenes of panic and drawing parallels with a similar fatal accident reported at Kurla last year, when a BEST bus rammed vehicles and pedestrians, killing nine people. According to police, driver Santosh Sawant (50) was taken into custody immediately after the incident that took place around 9.35 pm. The bus that operates on route no. 606, between Bhandup station and Nardas Nagar, was taking a turn on the congested Station Road outside the Bhandup railway station when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it ran over people who were standing in a queue ahead. A lamppost was also damaged. Videos later surfaced showed people pushing the bus to one side to rescue those trapped underneath.
