Why are RCB batters sporting impractical long hair during a sticky summer tournament like IPL?

2 min readUpdated: Mar 22, 2026 06:15 PM IST An ode to T20 World Cup winner Tilak Varma? A riff off peak-MS Dhoni as respect? Or just a copy of the latest matinee idol from Kannada or Telugu movie industries? The Royal Challengers Bangalore team saw four of their frontline players turn up for the photo shoot, sporting longer hairdos. Captain Rajat Patidar, Krunal Pandya, Venkatesh Iyer and Tim David reported sporting long tresses which in Indian cricket are an ultimate tribute to CSK’s MS Dhoni. While cackling speculation on social media twisted what it could mean under a catty hashtag of ‘iykyk’, others reckoned this highly impractical idea of growing their hair during a non-salubrious, sticky, sweaty summer slam of a tournament might just be a promotion collaboration with a hair cream or (best case scenario) barber brand. The time to keep long hair in India is October-February at most, but peak-April and May sporting of a flowing mane will be considered bold – or foolish, by most. Australia’s power batting is a risk at T20 World Cup 2026, reasons R Ashwin: ‘If the pitches are sticky, India will be in driver’s seat’ | Cricket News

Australia’s unrelenting T20 aggression was blown to pieces on a tacky pitch by India’s slower bowlers during the fourth T20I in Queensland on Thursday, earning them a crucial 2-1 lead ahead of the final match of the series. After making a just-above-par 167-run total, India bundled out Australia for only 119 to register a comfortable victory. The hosts’ chase petered out when all-rounder Shivam Dube removed the dangerous Tim David with a slower bouncer and proceeded to remove skipper Mitchell Marsh on 38. Spinners Varun Chakaravarthy, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel then broke the back of Australia’s order, sharing six wickets between them for only 49 runs. Ashwin cautioned that Australia’s all-out aggressive approach could backfire at the World Cup if the wickets proceed to remain slightly two-paced as it was at the Carrara Oval, playing more to India’s strengths.
