Over 12 lakh medical stores shut across India

Over 12 lakh medical stores shut across India

Chemists across India have called for a nationwide strike on Wednesday to protest against the growing sale of medicines through online platforms and e-pharmacies. The agitation, led by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD), is likely to impact the availability of medicines in several cities as more than 12.4 lakh private medical stores are expected to remain closed for the day, reported IANS. The protest has been organised to highlight concerns over what chemists describe as inadequate regulation of online medicine sales. Retail pharmacy associations have alleged that several e-pharmacy platforms are operating without strict monitoring, particularly in the verification of prescriptions and the storage and delivery of medicines, reported IANS. Man held for stealing gold rings from Kukatpally jewellery stores using deception

Screen grab of a video showing the accused replacing original gold ring with rolled gold imitations he concealed in his shirt pocket | Photo Credit: By Arrangement A 30-year-old man was arrested by Kukatpally police for stealing gold rings from prominent jewellery stores by swapping them with imitation pieces. The accused, identified as Merugu Sagar from Ameenpur in Sangareddy, was apprehended following an investigation into thefts reported at CMR and Malabar Gold shopping malls earlier this year. Police said the offences were reported on January 23 and February 2, when the accused posed as a customer and asked to be shown gold rings. While the sales staff were distracted, he allegedly replaced original rings with rolled gold imitations he had concealed in his shirt pocket, before leaving the stores unnoticed. Cases were registered at Kukatpally police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, while a related case was also booked at Punjagutta police station in connection with a similar offence. Walmart to shut down over 4,600 stores across US in December: Here’s when and why

Walmart to shut down over 4,600 stores across US in December: Here’s when and why

Updated on: Dec 13, 2025 07:25 pm IST Walmart will close all US locations on December 25, 2025, for the holiday, marking its second annual shutdown. Walmart has announced that all of its over 4,600 locations in the United States will be closed on December 25, 2025, resulting in a complete day without public service. This closure marks one of the only two days each year when the retailer halts its operations, the other being Thanksgiving Day. Walmart is closing its US stores on December 25, 2025, to allow employees to spend time with family. (REUTERS) In order to avoid interfering with their holiday celebrations, Walmart has also changed its operation hours on December 24. Customers are urged to conclude their shopping ahead of time, either in the days preceding the holiday or during the specified business hours. Due to this early closure, the chain is initiating its national blackout for over 24 hours, a practice it has implemented annually as part of the celebration of a federal holiday. RAM prices are so out of control that stores are selling it like lobster

RAM prices are so out of control that stores are selling it like lobster

Michael Crider’s headline at PCWorld today perfectly captures how ridiculous the PC memory shortage has become: stores like the San Francisco Bay Area’s Central Computers are beginning to sell RAM at market prices, like you’d pay for the catch-of-the-day at a seafood restaurant. “Costs are fluctuating daily as manufacturers and distributors adjust to limited supply and high demand,” reads a message posted in the store’s display case, as spotted by Steve Lin. “Because of this, we can’t display fixed prices at this time.” Micro Center is apparently doing the same: “Due to market volatility, we ask that you please see a Sales Associate for price,” reads an in-store message captured by Redditor CassTexas (via Tom’s Hardware). It’s hard to overstate just how quickly the RAM crunch is changing the affordability of computers — and it might soon impact other realms as well, as everything from game consoles to smartphones require RAM to function. Three months ago yesterday, I bought 32GB of memory for my gaming PC and the price of that exact kit has more …

Apple Stores Said to Be Opened in Mumbai and Bengaluru as Apple Eyes Retail Expansion

Apple Stores Said to Be Opened in Mumbai and Bengaluru as Apple Eyes Retail Expansion

Apple inaugurated its first retail stores in two cities in India in 2023, and the company is preparing to open new Apple Stores in more parts of the country. Earlier this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the company was planning to open four more stores in the country, and the announcement came nearly two years after the firm launched its first retail stores in Mumbai and Delhi. The company has yet to provide further details on its plans to open more stores in India. Upcoming Apple Store Locations in Mumbai and Bengaluru A report in The Financial Express states that the company plans to launch new Apple Stores at Sky City Mall in Borivali (Mumbai) and Phoenix Mall of Asia in Yelahanka (Bengaluru). Citing unidentified sources, the publication states that Apple has been hiring staff for these outlets over the past couple of months. These are two of four new locations for upcoming Apple Stores in India. Last month, it was reported that Apple had finalised locations for new Apple Stores at Kopa Mall in …

DJI said Mavic 4 Pro wouldn’t launch in US but these stores are selling it anyhow

DJI said Mavic 4 Pro wouldn’t launch in US but these stores are selling it anyhow

By the time you read these words, it’s quite possible that Adorama will be out of stock of the new DJI Mavic 4 Pro. But when I wrote them, the US-based retailer was still selling a drone that wasn’t supposed to go on sale in the US at all, with roughly 70 left in stock. Adorama and B&H, two rival camera stores based in New York City, apparently didn’t get the message. Today, they both listed the drone for $2,699 — or $3,549 for the Fly More Kit, or $4,649 for the Creator Combo with the fancy new controller with the folding sticks and swiveling 1600-nit screen, or $1,299 for that controller all by its lonesome. B&H even issued a press release. B&H is only offering preorders today; I confirmed with Miguel Perez in the store’s drone department that “we don’t yet have it in stock,” and he wasn’t sure when stock might arrive. “It’s a little bit of a grey area for logistics between the US and China for aircraft,” he admits. But he …

A new bill would force Apple to allow third-party app stores

A new bill would force Apple to allow third-party app stores

Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) introduced a bill Tuesday that would require “large app store operators” like Apple to let users install third-party app stores and set them as their default. The bill, called the App Store Freedom Act, aims to “promote competition and protect consumers and developers in the mobile app marketplace,” according to a press release on Tuesday. Though the bill doesn’t mention Apple by name, it carves out rules for “large app store operators,” which it defines as app stores having more than 100 million users in the US. The bill would target Google’s practices as well, as it would force major app stores to let developers use third-party payment systems. It would also require Apple and Google to offer developers “equal access to interfaces, features, and development tools without cost or discrimination,” as well as allow users to remove or hide pre-installed apps. Violations of the bill would result in penalties from the Federal Trade Commission, along with an additional civil penalty of up to $1 million for each violation. “Dominant app …
