Why liquor stores in Noida are offering ‘buy 1, get 1’ deals? | Latest News India

Liquor stores across Noida are offering discounts and special deals like ‘buy 1 get 1’ to clear out their stock before Uttar Pradesh’s new excise policy takes effect on April 1. The policy shift has led to a major change, with 80% of existing licence holders being replaced through an e-lottery system for liquor licence allocation. Last Friday, liquor buyers in Uttar Pradesh received a boost with the announcement of the New Excise Policy. (Pic used for representation) According to excise officials, liquor stores in Noida typically sell around 10,000 beer bottles, 30,000 foreign liquor bottles, and 40,000 country liquor bottles daily, generating ₹3-4 crore in revenue per day. With ongoing discounts, officials anticipate a 30-40% surge in sales this week. Unlike the past six years, when licences were simply renewed, this year’s introduction of the e-lottery system allows new entrants into the market. Additionally, the state government has introduced “composite shops” that will sell both beer and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) together, leading to the merger of many separate beer and IMFL outlets. …

Mad Rush At Noida Liquor Stores Amid Deals To Finish Stock

Mad Rush At Noida Liquor Stores Amid Deals To Finish Stock

New Delhi: Tipplers thronged liquor shops across Noida in large numbers to grab heavy discounts and schemes like one or two bottles free on each purchase on Tuesday, as stores sought to deplete the existing stock by March 31 before new contractors take over the vends in the next financial year. Several videos shared by X users showed long, serpentine queues outside various shops, including English Wine Shop in Sector 18, as people arrived for bulk purchases. Some people were seen leaving with crates of liquor.  In one of the videos, a man standing outside the store in Sector 18 is heard saying: “A lockdown is being imposed from tomorrow. Take everything today.” pic.twitter.com/hCLD9sxleu — Sachin Gupta (@SachinGuptaUP) …

Meta is trying to ‘offload’ kids safety onto app stores, Google says

Meta is trying to ‘offload’ kids safety onto app stores, Google says

While Meta, Snap, and X issued a joint statement praising the Utah bill’s passage, Google calls it “concerning.” Rather than protect kids and give parents more control, Google director of public policy Kareem Ghanem writes, the legislation “requires app stores to share if a user is a kid or teenager with all app developers (effectively millions of individual companies) without parental consent or rules on how the information is used. That raises real privacy and safety risks, like the potential for bad actors to sell the data or use it for other nefarious purposes.” Social media companies would be the real beneficiaries of the law, Ghanem writes, because they could “avoid that responsibility despite the fact that apps are just one of many ways that kids can access these platforms.” Both Meta and Google’s YouTube have come under fire in the past for allegedly not doing enough to keep its youngest users safe on their platforms by pushing videos of kids to potential predators or keeping teens in a content loop that makes them feel …

Ola Electric Stores See Raids, Seizures on Flouting India Rules

Ola Electric Stores See Raids, Seizures on Flouting India Rules

Ola Electric Mobility Ltd.’s rapid expansion into brick-and-mortar showrooms is running into regulatory trouble. The Bengaluru-based electric scooter maker, once a champion of the digital-only sales model, recently scaled up to 4,000 physical locations since 2022. A Bloomberg News investigation has found that out of roughly 3,400 showrooms for which data is available, a little over 100 locations had trade certificates required under India’s Motor Vehicles Act. That means more than 95% of the stores on which Bloomberg News saw the data, lacked basic certification needed to display, sell, offer test rides on or transport unregistered two-wheelers. In response to customer complaints, transport authorities across Indian states have conducted raids, closed showrooms, seized vehicles and sent show-cause notices querying the Bhavish Aggarwal-led firm, according to internal documents and government warning letters seen by Bloomberg News. The country’s Motor Vehicles Act mandates that every auto showroom, including two-wheelers, should have a trade certificate conspicuously displayed if it keeps unregistered vehicles, according to Hans Kumar, a retired assistant transport commissioner who worked in the western Indian state …

Google Said to Be Close to Picking Sites in India for First Retail Stores Outside US

Google Said to Be Close to Picking Sites in India for First Retail Stores Outside US

Alphabet’s Google is close to deciding on locations in its key market of India where it will open its first physical retail stores outside the United States, three sources familiar with the matter said. Google counts India as a key growth market, where it has committed to investing $10 billion (roughly Rs. 86,759 crore). It currently has only five physical stores, all in the United States, which sell its products such as Pixel phones, watches and earbuds. It is aiming to mirror a retail approach that helped Apple rake in billions of dollars in the last two decades by showcasing its own products. Apple has 500 plus stores worldwide. Google is in advanced stages of finalising locations in or around the capital of New Delhi, and the financial capital Mumbai, said three sources, who declined to be named as the process is confidential. Google declined to comment on the matter. The first source said the stores are likely to be around 15,000 square feet, and will take at least another six months to open, though …

TikTok Returns on Apple, Google US App Stores as President Trump Delays Ban

TikTok Returns on Apple, Google US App Stores as President Trump Delays Ban

TikTok returned to the US app stores of Apple and Google on Thursday as President Donald Trump delayed a ban on the Chinese-owned social media app and assured the tech giants they would not be fined for distributing or maintaining it. The popular short video app used by nearly half of all Americans went dark briefly last month, before a law took effect on January 19 that requires its Chinese owner ByteDance either to sell it on national security grounds or face a ban. The following day, President Trump signed an executive order seeking to delay the enforcement of the ban by 75 days, allowing TikTok to continue its operations in the US temporarily. Although TikTok resumed service after President Trump’s assurances, Google and Apple kept the app removed from their US app stores. TikTok, the second-most downloaded app in the US  last year, said on Thursday that its latest app was now available for download. The delay could have been because Google and Apple were awaiting assurances that they would not be prosecuted for …

Marvel Snap is coming back to app stores soon, says developer

Mobile card game Marvel Snap is coming back to app stores, starting with Google Play. That’s according to Developer Second Dinner, which announced yesterday it was starting the process of restoring the game to Google’s Android app store at 6PM PT / 3PM ET that day. The developer said in another post it expects the game to return to both Google’s and Apple’s app stores “as early as next week.” Marvel Snap was caught up in the TikTok outage last weekend because its original publisher, Nuverse, is owned by TikTok parent company ByteDance. The game came back online for players on Monday and Second Dinner said it planned to “bring more services in-house and partner with a new publisher.” As of now, Marvel Snap is still “provided, operated, and managed by Nuverse,” according to the privacy policy on the game’s website. An admin of the Marvel Snap Discord server also announced a set of compensation packages for players affected by the outage. As seen in screenshots posted to Reddit, that includes in-game credits, tokens, and …

Apple Pulls iPhone 14, iPhone SE (2022) From Online Stores in EU as USB Type-C Mandate Comes Into Effect

Apple Pulls iPhone 14, iPhone SE (2022) From Online Stores in EU as USB Type-C Mandate Comes Into Effect

Apple has stopped selling iPhone 14 and the iPhone SE (2022) on its online stores in the European Union (EU). The Cupertino-based technology giant’s decision to discontinue older iPhone models is in compliance with the mandate issued by the European Parliament that was issued in October, 2022 and came into effect on December 28, 2024. It requires all small and medium-sized portable electronic devices sold in the EU bloc to have a common charging port — USB Type-C. While Apple’s newer models such as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 come equipped with the aforementioned port, several of its older devices, which are being discontinued in the EU, still feature the company’s proprietary lightning port. However, the EU’s mandate means even older devices must be sold with a USB Type-C charger, due to which the technology giant is pulling iPhone 14 and iPhone SE (2022) from its online stores. Gadgets 360 can confirm that Apple’s decision has already come into effect. Apple stores in regions part of the EU such as Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, …
