Government investing ₹6,000 crore in substations to meet future power demand in Andhra: Minister Gottipati

File | Photo Credit: The Hindu Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar informed the Legislative Assembly on Thursday (March 5, 2026) that the government was investing around ₹6,000 crore in construction of substations as part of its efforts to strengthen the power distribution network in Andhra Pradesh. Replying to a question raised by MLA Aditi Vijayalakshmi Gajapathiraju regarding the construction of a 220/132 kV substation at Venugopalapuram in Vizianagaram district, the Minister said the proposed project was currently under the re-tendering process. He said efforts were on to expedite the construction works and ensure smooth implementation of the project and informed that the substation was expected to be completed by March 2027. The Minister said specifically in Vizianagaram district, two 220 kV power projects worth about ₹46 crore were presently under implementation.
