Actress Saiyami Kher is all set to begin the new year on an exciting note as she comes on board an untitled project directed by ace designer-turned-filmmaker Vikram Phadnis. This project, produced by Reel Euphoria in association with Knight Sky Movies, has officially gone on the floor. Saiyami will headline the upcoming drama along with Viineet Kumar Siingh and Tahir Raj Bhasin. 2020 Delhi riots: Court grants bail to Tahir Hussain in money laundering case

A court in New Delhi on Saturday granted bail to former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Councillor Tahir Hussain in the money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the 2020 northeast Delhi riots. Hussain, however, will continue to remain in jail as he in an accused in the case regarding the alleged larger conspiracy behind the communal riots. Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai, who heard Hussain`s bail plea, said that he had been in jail for more than four years while the maximum sentence for offence under Section 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) was seven years. The plea said that the former AAP councillor had undergone more than half of the sentence. “The court concludes that as the applicant (Hussain) had undergone more than half of the period of imprisonment as provided for the offence allegedly committed by him, he is entitled for bail. Accordingly the applicant is granted bail on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 50,000 with two sureties in the like amount,” the court said. …

The court said Hussain shall bear all the expenses for his custody parole including for Delhi police officials to be deputed with him and jail van and escort expenses.  The apex court said Hussain shall be released from jail as per the jail manual upon the deposit of the expenses i.e. around 2 lakh for 12 hours. The Bench headed by Justice Vikram Nath asked Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju, appearing for the police, to also examine the security required for Mr. Hussain during the parole period and approximate expenses for it. The court said the amount could be paid to the Delhi Police in advance, probably on January 28. The case was referred to the larger three-judge Bench after a Division Bench of Justices Pankaj Mithal and Ahsanuddin Amanullah delivered a split verdict on January 21 on Mr. Hussain’s plea for interim bail to canvass for votes. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear Hussain’s interim bail petition on Monday, January 20. Hussain has also challenged the Delhi High Court’s decision that denied his bail request. High Court denial The Delhi High Court had rejected Hussain’s plea, citing his alleged role as a conspirator in the 2020 Delhi riots, which resulted in 59 deaths. The court stated that the seriousness of the charges cannot be ignored and that being a former councilor does not entitle him to interim bail.
