Mid-Air Drama Over Maharashtra Ex Minister’s Son’s Trip To Bangkok

Pune: When pilots of the flight carrying ex-Maharashtra minister Tanaji Sawant’s son and his two friends to Bangkok were asked to return to Pune, they thought it to be a “hoax” message, but complied after verification from aviation authorities, an airline executive said on Wednesday. The chartered flight, operated by a private firm, carrying Rishiraj Sawant (32) and his two friends returned to the Pune airport between 8 pm and 8.30 pm on Monday, abruptly cutting short a trip to the Thailand capital which was not disclosed to the Shiv Sena leader and his family. The decision to divert the airborne plane to Pune was made only after due verification, insisted the executive of the company operating the airline. In a dramatic turn of events, Rishiraj Sawant and his two friends, heading to Bangkok on what they later claimed was a “business trip”, were hurriedly brought back to Pune after police registered a kidnapping case following an anonymous call and intervention of his father Tanaji Sawant. “When we received the first call (from family members) …

False alarm: Ex-Maharashtra minister’s son in kidnapping scare, flight to Bangkok turned back | Mumbai news

PUNE/MUMBAI: A chartered flight from Pune to Bangkok was asked to turn back as Shiv Sena MLA and former minister Tanaji Sawant claimed his son Rushiraj, 32, had been abducted on Monday. As it turned out, Sawant had raised an alarm apparently because he was very worried – his son had left home without letting his family know of the impending trip. File Photo: Ex-Maharashtra minister Tanaji Sawant (middle) “We speak 10 to 15 times a day. He left Pune without telling us,’’ said Sawant, a minister of state in the earlier Devendra Fadnavis ministry and health minister in the Eknath Shinde ministry. “We often convey to our family members where we are going. I was worried because he went without informing anyone in our family.” The false alarm, which had pressed various arms of the state machinery into action, was triggered by a phone call from an unidentified caller about Rushiraj’s alleged kidnapping. It appeared that Rushiraj, a trustee of the Jayawant Shikshan Prasarak Mandal (JSPM) and TSSM Group, had left home in the …

‘Unholy alliance’: Two BJP leaders pour scorn on Ajit-led NCP | Pune News

After the disparaging remarks by state health minister Tanaji Sawant against the NCP, now two BJP leaders have targeted Ajit Pawar’s party. In the first instance, it was BJP spokesperson Ganesh Hake who termed the BJP-NCP alliance as unfortunate. “Our alliance with NCP was unfortunate. Actually, the alliance has not gone down well with either BJP or NCP. It was an unholy alliance. During Lok Sabha elections, NCP leaders and workers were seen in the Congress camp. Is it only the BJP’s duty to follow the alliance’s dharma?” He said. Another BJP leader, Dilip Deshmukh, on Saturday said BJP and Shiv Sena were real brothers while NCP was a step brother. “Because of NCP workers, BJP workers have suffered a lot,” he said, while alleging that Ajit Pawar discriminates while giving development funds. Deshmukh said, “In Maharashtra, there is a three party government. First party is BJP, second is Shiv Sena and the third is NCP. Actually, we didn’t want NCP because BJP and Shiv Sena are really brothers. There are no two opinions about …

Ajit Pawar-led NCP objects to Tanaji Sawant’s ‘offensive remarks’ | Mumbai news

Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction led by Ajit Pawar has strongly objected to controversial comments made by Tanaji Sawant, the state public health minister and Shiv Sena leader. Tanaji Sawant is the state public health minister. (HT FILE) Sunil Tatkare, the NCP’s state president, confirmed that he had spoken directly with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who leads the Shiv Sena, to express his party’s disapproval. “I conveyed our objection to the chief minister regarding the language used by Tanaji Sawant,” Tatkare told Hindustan Times. Sawant, a Shiv Sena MLA representing the Paranda assembly constituency in Dharashiv district, shifted his allegiance to Shinde during the party split and was subsequently appointed as a minister in the Mahayuti government. Tatkare emphasised that his party had not joined the Mahayuti alliance at Sawant’s behest and asserted that it was Shinde’s responsibility to keep the minister in check. “Eknath Shinde is a sensible and sensitive leader, as well as a capable administrator. I’m hopeful he will take appropriate action against a loose cannon like Tanaji Sawant,” Tatkare …
