Madras High Court Directs Probe Agency Not To Proceed Further In TASMAC Issue

Chennai: In a temporary relief to TASMAC, the Madras High Court on Thursday directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) not to proceed further pursuant to its searches at the state-run liquor retailer’s headquarters in the city recently. While giving an oral direction to ED in this connection, the HC also directed the central agency to produce copies of FIR and Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) along with any other materials which it relied upon against the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation. After conducting searches at TASMAC earlier this month, ED had recently claimed irregularities to the tune of about Rs 1000 crore. A division bench comprising Justices M S Ramesh and N Senthilkumar posted to March 25, further hearing of the petitions filed by TASMAC and the Tamil Nadu government against the searches conducted by ED. In its petition, TASMAC sought a direction to the ED not to harass its employees under the guise of investigation. Tasmac to implement end-to-end computerisation by end of January 2025

Vedhan The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited, popularly known as Tasmac, will be extending its end-to-end computerisation system incorporating QR codes (quick response codes) to all districts across the State by the end of January 2025. “Currently, this initiative which started in September 2024 is being implemented in 11 locations and by the second week of January 2025, it will be rolled out in 10 more locations,” a Tasmac official said. Initially, the project was implemented in Ramanathapuram and Arakkonam, and based on the feedback and analysis it was rolled out in Kancheepuram (North and South), Karur, Sivagangai, Trichy, Tiruppur, Pudukottai, Virudhunagar, and Tirunelveli. Explaining end-to-end computerisation system, officials said liquor manufacturers affix a QR code on each bottle which will be scanned at each point. “Every step, from the manufacturing and bottling of the liquor to its sale to the consumer, will be tracked online,” said a senior Tasmac official.
