India aims for a threefold increase in its textile exports to ₹9 lakh crore by 2030, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday, hoping that the target can be achieved even earlier with the vision of “Five Fs” and new $7.5 billion worth of global opportunities in recycling of textile waste. Image Source : PTI Traffic jam at Delhi-Noida border (File) Noida traffic authorities issued an advisory for a four-day textile event slated to begin on Wednesday (February 12) at the Expo Centre in Knowledge Park 2, Greater Noida.  “It is informed to the general public that it is proposed to organise the Global Textile Event “Bharat Tex-2025″ at India Expo Center (Expomart) Greater Noida from 12.02.2025 to 15.02.2025. In which about 5,000 (five thousand) people are likely to participate. During the said event, traffic will be operated normally,” an advisory issued by the Traffic Police Gautam Budh Nagar read. The laboratory will play a vital role in strengthening the quality ecosystem in the textile sector with its state-of-the-art testing facilities, BIS director general Pramod Kumar Tiwari said at the inauguration of the lab in Moulali here on Monday (January 27, 2025). Setting up of the specialised textiles testing laboratory in Hyderabad is a significant step in strengthening the country’s quality infrastructure. It is poised to play a critical role in enforcing quality control orders (QCOs) issued by the government of India, ensuring textile products meet the highest national standards, he said. Testing facilities for yarn will also be operational in this laboratory shortly, further expanding its capabilities. Thousands of textile units in Surat hit as labourers call strike to seek wage hike | Ahmedabad News

These were the scenes on Monday in Surat’s Pandesara as tens of thousands of labourers joined a protest to seek a wage hike. More than one thousand textile factories and 1.50 to 2 lakh powerloom machines have been hit due to the strike, which began over the weekend. It all began on Saturday night, as per sources, when a group of 25 to 35 textile workers — armed with wooden sticks and iron rods on bikes — compelled the workers at factories to step out and join the strike. As factory owners learnt about the incident around midnight, they rushed to their units. When they asked the labourers to return to work, they were told that the fear of those leading the strike was a deterrent, as per people in the know. On Sunday, factory owners called up a meeting to discuss a possible solution. Subsequently, work resumed at around 50 per cent of the units as police presence …

NCP MP Supriya Sule on Sunday said that her mother Pratibha Pawar and daughter Revati were stopped from entering Baramati’s Textile Park for 25 minutes. “My father had set up the Textile Park in Baramati. And today, my mother and daughter were made to wait at the gates of the same park for 25 minutes. They were not allowed to go in by security guards,” Sule told reporters in Baramati today. Representational image only. | Photo Credit: PTI The police have arrested an employee of a textile mill at Karanampettai in Tiruppur district, Tamil Nadu, on the charge of murdering a six-year-old boy, son of his co-worker, who is also from Odisha. Kanhu Das (34) who is from Ranital in Odisha was arrested on November 14 for murdering Ganesh, son of Anita Naik from Suramani village in Ganjam district in Odisha. Ms. Naik found her son missing when she returned to the labourers’ quarters at Sangothipalayam after work around 7.30 p.m. on November 8. She used to leave him under the care of a woman at the quarters. The woman lodged a complaint with the Palladam police around 11.30 p.m. and the boy was found murdered outside the compound wall of the quarters the next day. Das, who was working as a supervisor of the mill, became one of the suspects during the investigation as he had a break-up with the boy’s mother Ms. Naik, who also worked at the same mill. From “impersonating Chief Justice of India Justice D Y Chandrachud” to “holding a fake Supreme Court hearing via Skype” and citing the money-laundering investigation against Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, cyber fraudsters duped textile industry doyen S P Oswal, an 82-year-old Padma Bhushan awardee, to transfer Rs 7 crore to their bank accounts. The Ludhiana police on Sunday arrested two people from Assam and identified seven others spread across West Bengal and Delhi, while recovering from their bank accounts Rs 5.25 crore that they accumulated allegedly after duping Oswal. Oswal, chairman-cum-managing director of Vardhman Group, the largest textile manufacturing group in the country, says he was also taken into “digital custody” by the fraudsters who posed as CBI sleuths. Oswal says they kept him under “digital surveillance for two days via Skype” as a “suspect in a money-laundering case”. Maharashtra: PM Modi to attend `Vishwakarma` event, lay textile park foundation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Maharashtra on Friday, where he will attend the first anniversary programme of `PM Vishwakarma` scheme in Wardha and also lay the foundation stone of a textile park in Amravati. During the `PM Vishwakarma` programme to be held in Wardha around 11.30 am, PM Modi will release certificates and loans to the beneficiaries of this scheme, an official release said. Symbolising the tangible support extended to artisans under this scheme, he will distribute credit under the PM Vishwakarma scheme to 18 beneficiaries under 18 trades. As a tribute to their legacy and enduring contribution to society, the prime minister will release a commemorative stamp to mark one year of progress under the scheme, it said. In Amravati, the PM will lay the foundation stone of `PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park`.
