Thiago Motta Sacked As Juventus Coach, Igor Tudor Announced As Replacement

Thiago Motta was sacked as Juventus coach on Sunday after less than one season in charge with former player Igor Tudor replacing him, the Italian giants announced. “Juventus FC announce that Thiago Motta has been relieved of his duties as men’s first team coach,” said a statement by Juventus. “The club would like to thank Thiago Motta and all of his staff for their professionalism and for the work they have carried out in recent months with passion and dedication. “Juventus also announce that the team will now be led by Igor Tudor, who will take charge of his first training session tomorrow, Monday, 24 March.” The decision to dump Motta followed a 4-0 defeat by Atalanta — their heaviest home defeat since 1967 — and a 3-0 loss at Fiorentina in the team’s last two games, leaving Juve a disappointing fifth in the Italian top flight. On the back of these results, the club’s directors used the current international break to have discussions with Motta, which led them to the decision that …

Argentina On Brink After Thiago Almada Strike Sinks Uruguay

Argentina edged to the brink of qualification for the 2026 World Cup on Friday after a superb strike from Thiago Almada earned them a 1-0 victory over Uruguay in Montevideo. The reigning world champions looked to be headed for a draw after a tense tussle against a Uruguay side who defeated the Argentinians 2-0 in Buenos Aires earlier in qualifying. But Argentina grabbed all three points with a moment of magic that stunned Montevideo’s Estadio Centenario. Gathering the ball on the edge of the area, the 23-year-old attacking midfielder took a touch and uncorked a ferocious strike that flew into the top corner beyond the dive of Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet. The only blemish for Argentina on an otherwise solid night’s work came deep into stoppage time when Nicolas Gonzalez was dismissed after catching Uruguay defender Nahitan Nandez with a high boot in a rash challenge. Nevertheless that late red card could not take the gloss off the evening for Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni, who praised his team’s response to losing Messi to …

“Was A Great Player But…”: Juventus Coach Thiago Motta Breaks Silence After Paul Pogba Ban Reduction

Thiago Motta refused on Saturday to say whether Paul Pogba had a future at Juventus after the France midfielder’s four-year doping ban was slashed to 18 months. Pogba, a World Cup winner with Les Bleus in 2018, will be able to return to competitive football from March 11 next year following Friday’s ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Italian media report that Juve might still seek to terminate Pogba’s contract, which runs until the end of June 2026 and is reportedly worth up to 10 million euros ($10.97 million) a season. “The club will assess the situation and make a decision if necessary. Paul was a great player but he hasn’t played for a long time,” coach Motta told reporters ahead of Sunday’s Serie A fixture with Cagliari. “All I’m thinking about is our match tomorrow, nothing else really matters as far as I’m concerned.” Juventus refused to comment on Pogba, who tested positive for testosterone following the Turin club’s opening Serie A fixture of last season, a 3-0 win …

Brazilian defender Thiago Silva will leave Chelsea at the end of the season after a “dream” four-year spell at Stamford Bridge. Silva announced his farewell on Monday in an emotional video message on Chelsea’s website. The 39-year-old centre-back arrived at the Premier League club on a free transfer in August 2020 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. He has made 151 appearances in all competitions for the Blues, winning the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. “Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here with the intention of only staying for a year and it ended up being four years. Not just for me but for my family, too,” Silva said during a tearful goodbye speech. “My sons play for Chelsea so it’s a source of great pride to be a part of the Chelsea family. I hope they can continue their careers here at this victorious club that many players wish to be part of. “I think in everything I did here over the four years, I always gave my …
