The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nationwide weather alert warning of torrential rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds across several states on Monday as the southwest monsoon remains active over large parts of the country. According to the latest IMD bulletin, the next 14 hours are expected to be particularly critical, with heavy rain and severe weather likely to affect several regions. IMD warns of heavy rain and strong winds The weather department said wind speeds could reach up to 80 kmph in some areas, increasing the risk of uprooted trees, power outages, traffic disruptions and waterlogging in low-lying areas. The IMD has advised farmers, travellers and people living near rivers and coastal regions to remain vigilant. Residents in hilly states have also been warned about the possibility of landslides and sudden rises in river water levels due to persistent rainfall. Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Monday afternoon as a dust storm swept through the region, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the national capital. The sudden change in weather disrupted normal life and affected traffic movement across several areas. Residents witnessed dark skies, gusty winds and scattered thunderstorms as an active western disturbance influenced weather conditions across northwest India. Delhi experienced steady rainfall from Monday morning, providing relief from the intense summer heat that had gripped the city in recent weeks. The capital recorded partly cloudy conditions with temperatures around 38 degrees Celsius during the day. According to forecasts, the maximum temperature was expected to touch 39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was likely to remain around 27 degrees Celsius. Kerala is set to witness widespread rain, thunderstorms and strong winds till June 2 as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday forecast favourable conditions for the further advance of the southwest monsoon over large parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal during the next two to three days.  According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon is likely to advance further into more parts of the southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, the Lakshadweep region, the southwest Bay of Bengal, the central-east Bay of Bengal, the central-west Bay of Bengal, the remaining parts of the southeast Bay of Bengal and parts of the northeast Bay of Bengal over the coming days. According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), six districts reported maximum temperatures of 45°C or higher, pushing the mercury into the red zone. Tanur in Nirmal and Armoor in Nizamabad were the hottest locations, each recording 45.4°C. Close behind were Korutla in Jagtial with 45.3°C, Bela in Adilabad at 45.2°C, Bheemini in Mancherial reaching 45.1°C, and Kerameri in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad registering an even 45°C. Other regions too hovered just below the 45°C. Maldakal in Jogulamba Gadwal and Damaracherla in Nalgonda recorded 44.9°C; followed by Madnur in Kamareddy at 44.6°C; Palakurthy in Peddapalli at 44.5°C and Gangadhara in Karimnagar touching 44.4°C.
