Police have launched a probe after unidentified persons allegedly attempted to siphon crude oil by illegally tapping into an Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) pipeline in Rajasthan’s Tonk district.  The attempt came to light after IOCL detected an abnormal pressure drop, and, during an inspection at Ladi village, discovered a 40-foot underground pipeline connected to its crude oil network. The pressure drop was noticed on June 1. The illegal connection was removed, the pipeline repaired, and a complaint has been lodged. Intensified monsoon activity claimed at least seven lives and caused disruptions across the state on Thursday and Friday.  The deaths were reported from Sant Kabir Nagar, Kushinagar, Bulandshahr, Shamli, and Ghaziabad in separate rain-related incidents, officials said. The Assam government on Friday presented a Rs 2,85,084 crore Budget for the 2026-27 financial year and proposed to raise the tax exemption limit for small tea growers by four times and cut VAT on piped natural gas by almost 10 percentage points. Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah also announced to continue all the major schemes rolled out during the last five years, while stating that he aims to cut the Budget deficit to Rs 419 crore. More than 1.60 lakh devotees have paid obeisance at the holy Amarnath cave shrine since the commencement of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2026) on July 3, while another batch of 8,796 pilgrims departed from Jammu for the Kashmir Valley on Friday. Officials said the ninth batch of pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu in escorted convoys bound for the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps. Nearly 9,000 pilgrims depart from Jammu Of the total pilgrims who left on Friday, 3,350 yatris travelled in an escorted convoy to the Baltal base camp at 2.42 am, while 5,346 pilgrims departed for the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam at 3.24 am. The batch comprised 6,426 men, 2,042 women, 228 sadhus, 10 children, 33 foreign male pilgrims and one transgender devotee. A total of 354 vehicles were deployed for the convoy, including 175 buses, 70 medium motor vehicles (MMVs), 106 light motor vehicles (LMVs) and three two-wheelers.
