12.38 lakh tonnes paddy purchased from 1.54 lakh ryots so far, ₹1,129 crore paid

HYDERABAD The Telangana Civil Supplies Department has procured 12.38 lakh tonnes of paddy produced in the Rabi season so far against the plans to purchase about 90 lakh tonnes. The farmers are paid ₹1,129.43 crore in Minimum Support Price (MSP) payments directly into the bank accounts of over 1.54 lakh farmers. According to Commissioner of Civil Supplies M. Stephen Ravindra, the department is operating at full capacity across the State to handle the inflow of paddy. Currently, a network of 8,575 Paddy Purchase Centers (PPCs) is actively buying paddy from cultivators. DRI seizes 70 tonnes of firecrackers at Nhava Sheva; two arrested

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Zonal Unit, has seized 70 metric tonnes of Chinese-origin firecrackers on Monday, 20 April — smuggled into India and arrested two persons. The seizure, valued at₹17.07 crore, was made from four containers at Nhava Sheva Port under an operation codenamed “Pyro Heist”. The consignments were declared as other goods to evade customs inspection. The accused had attempted to move the firecrackers from the imported containers to another vehicle at a Container Freight Station (CFS) after breaking the container seals. This shortage was conveyed by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury to Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma on March 9. Bangladesh relies heavily on imported fuels oil, gas, coal for power generation and other needs. Recent global disruptions are linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Bangladesh is in bad situation after Iran-related war that has worsened supply pressures and prices. A little over seven months after the Kashmir line became fully operational, the Railways have facilitated the arrival of the first-ever full railway rake of foodgrains in the Valley.On Thursday, the 42-wagon train laden with rice arrived at the Anantnag goods shed from Sangrur rail terminal in Punjab. Northern Railways’ Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay said the unloading of the train was delayed due to snowfall in Kashmir on Friday. “The unloading of rice was completed on Saturday. The total weight of foodgrain on the train was 2,600 tonnes – equivalent to transporting 100 trucks full of rice. Railways will soon be transporting other commodities, apart from cement and foodgrains, in the region. We are focusing on diversifying our freight basket,” said Upadhyay. Earlier, in December 2025, a mini foodgrain freight train with 21 wagons and carrying 1,384 tonnes reached the Anantnag goods terminal. NOIDA: The Noida authority is set to commence remediation of the city’s 700,000 tonne waste stored in the Sector 145-located Mubarakpur Village, from January onwards as it is set to finalise an expert agency for the job by December-end, officials said on Sunday. Officials of the Corporation said that a large workforce of 2,300 sanitary staff, who are mostly women workers, were roped for the mammoth exercise, which was started on Thursday, a day before Maha Deepam as the town witnessed steady flow of pilgrims. “Sanitary workers from extended areas of the Corporation were also roped for the purpose. In the two-day drive, they collected around 450 tonnes of wastes, which is the highest volume generated on Maha Deepam so far,” S. Dinesh said: “The board has set an ambitious target to increase our production to 7 lakh tonnes by 2047, when India celebrates 100 years of independence. India to receive 2.2 million tonnes of LPG from US

Indian state-run oil companies have signed a one-year deal to import cooking gas LPG from the United States in 2026, marking a push by New Delhi to expand energy purchases from Washington. The move is seen as an attempt to narrow India’s trade surplus with the US. “Indian PSU oil companies have successfully concluded a one-year structured contract to import around 2.2 million tonnes of LPG from the US Gulf Coast for the contract year 2026,” an official statement said on Monday.
