Kakkathuruthu island rose to global fame after National Geographic named it as one of the best places to watch the sunset. | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT The Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC) has dropped plans to operate day-long tour packages in its partly air-conditioned (AC) tourist boats from Marine Drive to the world famous Kakkathuruthu Island on the Ernakulam-Alappuzha border citing ‘inordinate delay’ in removing two unlicensed fishing nets from the backwaters around the island. Kakkathuruthu rose to global fame after National Geographic named it as one of the best places to watch the sunset. It was also listed in its ‘Around the World in 24 Hours’, a photographic tour of travel-worthy spots, in 2016. “We have decided not to go ahead with our ambitious plan to operate package tours in our partly AC vessels to the pristine island, located a stone’s throw away from Kochi, considering the delay of over a year by local bodies and the Fisheries department in removing two unlicensed nets that obstruct safe navigation along the waterway,” said …

‘Yes, you need family. But you also need a team’: Kapil Dev calls for balanced approach to players’ families on tours | Cricket News

Former India World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev delved into the BCCI’s recent diktat on limiting the duration of family visits for the Indian players while on tour. Dev said that the issue, which has been a real contentious one, needs a more balanced approach. “Well, I don’t know, that’s individual. I think it’s the cricket board’s call,” said the 1983 World Cup-winning captain, speaking on the sidelines of the ‘Kapil Dev Grant Thornton Invitational’ event.“My view is, yes, you need family. But you also need a team, all the time.” “In our time, we used to say to ourselves — not by the cricket board — that the first half of the tour should be cricket, and in the second half, the family should come and enjoy it too. It should be a blend,” he added. R Ashwin questions England’s ‘mindset,’ asks them to take sub-continental tours seriously | Cricket News

R Ashwin questioned England cricket’s “mindset” and slammed their approach towards “sub-continental tours” after the Jos Buttler-led team was eliminated from the group stage of the Champions Trophy. “I saw Jos Buttler’s post-match interview (after the Afghanistan game). He was very candid in saying, ‘I do not know what my leadership aspirations are in the future.’ They had a terrible 50-over World Cup in 2023. And now they are out of the 2025 Champions Trophy. 1 They don’t qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. So, with all that in mind, I think England are at a crossroads,” Ashwin said on his Hindi YouTube channel “Ash Ki Baat.” “There was a statement from Ben Duckett after losing the first ODI in India. He said, ‘We don’t care if we lose 3-0 to India. Because we want to beat India in the final of the Champions Trophy.’ Story continues below this ad England’s Ben Duckett celebrates after scoring century during the ICC Champions Trophy cricket match between Australia and England, in Lahore, Pakistan. Freestyle Chess tour’s head claims FIDE demanded ,00,000 annually to allow event to go ahead

Freestyle Chess tour’s head claims FIDE demanded $5,00,000 annually to allow event to go ahead

A day after FIDE CEO Emil Sutovsky wrote a long post accusing the organisers of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour of trying to split the world of chess, the brains and financial muscle behind the tour, Jan Henric Buettner, has written an open letter aimed at Sutovsky and FIDE. Buettner said that FIDE had “alienated players” with the way the global governing body of chess had gone about things. He added that FIDE had demanded an “unjustifiable sum” of $500,000 to give its blessing for the Tour. “Despite Freestyle’s willingness to offer $100,000 annually to FIDE, purely as a gesture of goodwill and to avoid harassment — this has been rebuffed. FIDE’s demand for $5,00,000, an unjustifiable sum for a format it has no involvement in, suggests that monetary gain is the primary driver. Our sponsors, many of whom prefer to avoid association with FIDE altogether, support our decision to remain independent,” Buettner wrote in the open letter. BCCI to Limit Families’ Presence During Team India’s Tours

According to some reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to make some adjustments in protocols during Indian team tours and the players will also be barred from taking independent transport to commute during practice and matches. For a tour of 45 days, the family members can be with a player for 14 days. Meanwhile, during shorter tours in foreign countries, the immediate family members of a play can stay up to a week.
