Participants in the parents’ 100m race at a school in Jamaica were on the receiving end of some unfair competition as they had to share the track with arguably the greatest female runner in the history of track and field. Triple Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce stepped on to the line during her son’s Zyon’s sports day on Wednesday and blitzed the field comprising fellow mothers. Krishna Jayasankar, a 22-year-old shot put athlete, made history at the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championship in Albuquerque by setting a new Indian indoor record. She recorded a throw of 16.03 meters, surpassing the previous best of 15.54 meters set by Poorna Raorane in 2023. There was much drama after a thrilling photo-finish in the women’s 4x100m relay as Unnathi Aiyappa of Karnataka and Giridharani R of Tamil Nadu battled for the gold medal in the final leg. Karnataka won the gold with a timing of 46.99s ahead of Tamil Nadu (47.01s). However, minutes later, Tamil Nadu, along with Odisha and Uttarakhand, were disqualified for wrong baton exchange. The technical committee deemed that athletes of these three teams started incorrectly while exchanging the baton in the second exchange. But the Tamil Nadu team claimed that the line official had asked them to step back resulting in a false start.
