Manav Kaul got displaced from ‘troubled’ Kashmir, survived in Mumbai chawl on Rs 30 per day | Bollywood News

Last year, Manav Kaul starred in projects set in Kashmir, from Aditya Suhas Jambhale’s supernatural horror thriller Baramulla to Mahesh Mathai’s SonyLIV sports drama Real Kashmir Football Club. But he maintains he doesn’t feel that connection with Kashmir that often, despite being born in a Kashmiri Pandit family in Baramulla back in 1976. “We came back to Hoshangabad because my mother is from Hoshangabad. My grandmother’s health had deteriorated badly,” Manav recalled on a recent podcast. Manav was in Class 5 when he moved with his family to Madhya Pradesh. Little did he know that he would never go back ‘home’. “My father was still working there, so he told us to stay back because something seemed wrong. Then by the time things got worse, we had already stayed on, joined school, and kept saying, ‘Let’s wait another year.’ Eventually, my father had to come too,” Manav told Sangmitra Hitaishi, recalling how the 1990 Kashmiri Pandit Exodus led to his family’s gradual displacement. Growing up as a Kashmiri in Madhya Pradesh Manav and his brother …

Mohun Bagan Super Giant, East Bengal, Punjab FC, Mumbai City vie for title on final day of troubled season

4 min readNew DelhiUpdated: May 20, 2026 09:44 PM IST Half of the eight teams in the Indian Super League are in contention for the title going into the last four matches that are set to take place on Thursday. It is a thrilling finale to a season that many thought may never take place a couple of months ago but also one that is a product of the many problems that led to its delay and truncated format. That the title race has come down to the last day isn’t too surprising. With each team playing only a maximum of 13 matches, as opposed to 24 last season, the number of games have reduced by 11 and the number of participating teams has increased by one. Normally, the clear contenders for the ISL Shield, which is what is normally awarded to teams that top the league table, emerged only after teams had played about eight to 10 games a season, if not more. This year, they had just a handful of games left to …

Minimal vehicles in CM’s convoy; people should not be troubled: VD Satheesan

One of the first decisions taken by Kerala Chief Minister-designate V D Satheesan after being picked for the post was to limit his convoy to the minimum possible vehicles, in contrast to his predecessor’s large motorcade that had drawn criticism from various quarters. Satheesan also said that he will not be buying a new official car. (PTI) Speaking to reporters after a joint meeting with various religious leaders, Satheesan said that his intention was not to make fun of his predecessors but that the “treasury would not be able to bear the burden of such extravagance”. “Those before me may have needed it, I do not,” he also asserted. He said that since he, as chief minister, will have Z plus category security status, he has asked the police to be careful. “So, I have asked the police to provide the minimum possible security convoy. As few vehicles as possible. The very minimum. I have also asked them not to trouble people on the road when I am travelling,” Satheesan said. Also Read: KC Venugopal’s …

Mizoram Cabinet is against extending Governor’s Rule in troubled tribal council

File | Photo Credit: PTI GUWAHATI: As neighbouring Manipur nears a year under President’s Rule, the Mizoram government is against extending Governor’s Rule in a tribal council for another six months. On Wednesday (January 7, 2026), the Mizoram Cabinet said there was no justification in extending Governor’s Rule in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC). It cited three assessments, including one by the State’s Chief Secretary, to assert that the council was not facing any political instability to merit extension. The council of ministers responded to a reference from Governor Vijay Kumar Singh on whether Governor’s Rule, imposed on July 7, 2025, should be extended for another six months. It negated extension by pointing out that a single political party enjoys a clear majority in the CADC. Airports to studios: Mumbai’s troubled history with hostage standoffs and shootouts | Mumbai News

The tense hostage drama that unfolded in a Powai studio on Thursday, where police rescued 17 children from an armed man, has once again highlighted Mumbai’s uneasy history with armed standoffs and hostage situations. Though rare, such incidents have periodically gripped the city, testing police response and crisis management systems. Mumbai’s underworld era of the 1990s saw frequent exchange of gunfire between police and gangsters, turning residential neighborhoods into temporary war zones. However, most of those incidents, though violent and prolonged, did not involve hostages. One of the most infamous encounters was the 1991 Lokhandwala Complex shootout, when the Mumbai Police’s Anti-Terrorism Squad, led by Aftab Ahmed Khan, cornered gangster Maya Dolas and his men in a residential building. The six-hour gun battle ended with all seven gangsters dead and hundreds of terrified residents trapped inside their homes. Though not technically a hostage situation, it was one of the most intense sieges in Mumbai’s history. Story continues below this ad A year later, in 1992, gunfire erupted inside J.J. Lakshya troubled by back issues, Satwik-Chirag return with solid win & Aakarshi, Unnati nick one set off Chinese top names

A persistent lower back issue is making Lakshya Sen’s outings at the top level of competition a stop-start affair. On Wednesday at the Singapore Open Super 750, India’s top men’s singles shuttler was again forced to end his stay after the troublesome back flared up. Playing the turbo-charged Taiwanese Lin Chun-Yi, Sen did well to take the opener 21-15 and even caught up at 17-17 from 12-15 down in the second. But he needed repeated medical treatment requests and simply couldn’t continue leading to yet another Round 1 exit, this time from mid-match retirement. He trailed 21-15,17-21, 13-5 with severely restricted movement. “Lakshya had to retire from his Singapore Open match due to lower back pain and spasm,” father DK Sen told The Indian Express adding it was a recurring problem. “He had similar issues during practice last Saturday. Despite trying his best, he wasn’t fully fit. We’ll focus on his recovery now,” he added. Story continues below this ad FILE: Lakshya Sen in action.
