Eight people were killed after a coal-laden truck hit a van carrying a band party in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district, triggering a protest by locals, police said on Friday. The accident occurred in the Barlaung Budhbazar area under the Rajrappa Police Station limits around midnight when the truck struck the van, a senior officer said. “Initially, seven people died in the accident. The injured, who was referred to Ranchi’s RIMS for treatment, succumbed to his injuries during treatment, taking the total toll to eight,” Rajrappa Police Station in-charge Krishna Kumar said. A container truck transporting electronic goods worth an estimated nine crore caught fire on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway near Vasai in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Tuesday night, officials said. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm while the truck was on its way to Ahmedabad. The fire quickly engulfed the vehicle, triggering panic among motorists and leading to a major traffic jam on the busy highway for over two hours. According to officials from the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) fire department, the truck driver and cleaner noticed the blaze in time and managed to escape safely before the flames spread through the vehicle. No injuries were reported in the incident. After receiving information about the fire, VVMC fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and launched an extensive firefighting operation. A motorcyclist was killed after a cement mixer truck overturned and crushed his two-wheeler in Maharashtra`s Pune city shortly after midnight on Wednesday, police said, reported PTI. The incident occurred around 12.30 am near a hospital at Navale Bridge in the Narhe area on the Katraj-Bavdhan route, reported PTI. The cement mixer truck suddenly overturned while negotiating a turn at the Navale chowk and fell onto the motorcycle, crushing the rider underneath, officials from Narhe police station said. The motorcyclist, identified as Rameshwar Machhindra Bhogale (31), a resident of Katraj and originally from Beed district, died on the spot, the police said, reported PTI.
