Palghar: nine crore worth of electronics gutted in highway truck fire

A container truck transporting electronic goods worth an estimated nine crore caught fire on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway near Vasai in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Tuesday night, officials said.

The incident occurred around 9:30 pm while the truck was on its way to Ahmedabad. The fire quickly engulfed the vehicle, triggering panic among motorists and leading to a major traffic jam on the busy highway for over two hours.

According to officials from the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) fire department, the truck driver and cleaner noticed the blaze in time and managed to escape safely before the flames spread through the vehicle. No injuries were reported in the incident.

After receiving information about the fire, VVMC fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and launched an extensive firefighting operation. Firefighters worked for several hours to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby vehicles on the highway.

The fire completely gutted the truck and destroyed the electronic goods being transported, with losses estimated at around nine crore. Once the flames were extinguished, the charred vehicle was removed from the road, allowing traffic movement to gradually return to normal.

Officials said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained. An investigation has been launched to determine what triggered the blaze.
