Pakistan’s ‘heinous acts’ of aggression no surprise from country bombing its own people, says India at UN

India highlighted Afghan civilian deaths and injuries caused by cross-border violence by Pakistani military forces, saying such “heinous acts” of aggression should not come as a surprise from a country that bombs its own people and conducts systematic genocide. In a strong retort at the UN Security Council on Wednesday, India called out Pakistan’s “long-tainted record” of genocidal acts after Islamabad’s envoy at the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir during a debate held during China’s presidency of the Council for May. Yet, the structures that underpin global governance have not kept pace with these changes,” he noted. Jaishankar listed four specific points to press for reforming the key international bodies and multilateral trading systems, and asserted that the reform of the United Nations and its subsidiary bodies remains “central”. “The membership of the United Nations has expanded significantly, and its responsibilities have grown.
