Transport unions differ over December 31 strike in Karnataka

Six transport unions, including the KSRTC Employees’ Joint Action Committee (JAC), have announced a State-wide indefinite protest on December 31, pressing for various demands. However, a divide among unions has surfaced, with the Karnataka Rajya Raste Sarige Nigamagala Sanghatanegala Okkuta opposing the strike. Okkuta members argue that the JAC’s agenda does not align with the core demands of most transport employees. According to them, 95% of workers across the four road transport corporations prioritise salary parity with other government employees over the arrears sought by JAC. “The Joint Action Committee is negotiating for arrears and a 25% pay revision every four years. This proposal is unfair to employees and significantly lower than the salary increments granted to other government workers under the 7th Pay Commission. We demand a similar pay scale for RTC employees to ensure equity,” said Okkuta convenor R. Chandrashekhar. Mr Chandrashekhar also dismissed the potential impact of the strike, claiming that most employees support the Okkuta and will not participate in the protest. Meanwhile, JAC and allied unions are determined to proceed …

‘Batoge toh lutoge’: Amid Dallewal fast, farm unions step up unity bid to turn heat on Centre | Political Pulse News

Last Friday, several leaders of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) – an umbrella organisation of many farm unions from Punjab and other states – reached Khanauri to check on Jagjit Singh Dallewal, the SKM (non-political) coordinator, who has been on fast-unto-death since November 26. The SKM leaders who met Dallewal included Rakesh Tikait, BKU (Tikait) leader, Harinder Singh Lakhowal, general secretary of BKU (Lakhowal), and Manjit Singh Dhaner, president of BKU Dakaunda (Dhaner). They said they visited Khanauri on behalf of their respective unions and not as the SKM representatives. So far, the SKM has stayed away from the farmers’ sit-in protests being led by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and the SKM (non-political), which have been continuing at Shambhu and Khanauri on the Punjab-Haryana borders since February 13 this year. The SKM has maintained that while it supports their demands – which include legal status for minimum support price (MSP) of crops and farm debt waiver, among others – they have reservations about their “mode of protest”. However, various farm bodies seem to have …
