Unnao link road to Ganga Expressway damaged in UP’s first rain, 2 months after inauguration

A link road connecting the Ganga expressway with the Sonic toll plaza in Unnao was damaged in the season’s first spell of heavy rain, raising fresh questions over the quality of construction barely two months after the ₹12,000 crore expressway was inaugurated. The incident is the latest in a series of defects reported on the Ganga expressway. (Screengrab from X) The seven-metre approach road on the Meerut–Prayagraj carriageway near kilometre 421 developed a washout after rain on Friday, with soil along the embankment eroding and part of the carriageway collapsing. By Saturday, more soil had been washed away from the roadside, a traffic sign had fallen, and sections of the roadside drain were found damaged. The damaged stretch was repaired on an emergency basis on Friday and Saturday. However, fresh erosion at the same location raised concerns over the stability of the embankment. Locals alleged that slope protection measures, including grass cover meant to prevent soil erosion, were either inadequate or missing. Unnao survivor`s father`s death: Delhi court asks Jaideep Sengar to surrender

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday said that Jaideep Sengar, brother of expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Sengar, must surrender as there was no order extending the interim bail earlier granted to him on medical grounds, reported the PTI. Jaideep Sengar had approached the court seeking a three-month extension of his interim bail in the custodial death case of the Unnao rape survivor’s father. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) opposed the plea. The court noted that interim bail had been granted to Jaideep Sengar on July 3, 2024 for two months on medical grounds. However, there was no specific order extending it beyond that period. “Your interim bail was only for a particular period, and you should have surrendered. I just read the file, and there is no order (extending the interim bail),” the court observed, according to the PTI. In the pre-lunch session, the court had orally indicated that the interim bail would continue till February 20. However, after reviewing the case file post lunch, it clarified that there was no formal extension of …

File | Photo Credit: PTI The Delhi High Court on Monday (January 19, 2026) refused to suspend the 10-year sentence awarded to expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the case of the death of the Unnao rape survivor’s father while in custody. “No grounds are made out for grant relief. The application seeking suspension of sentence is dismissed,” said Justice Ravinder Dudeja. The judge observed that although Sengar had suffered a long incarceration, relief could not be given on grounds of delay, as it was partly because he filed multiple applications in his appeal against his conviction. “Purpose would be served if the appeal is heard expeditiously,” added the court while listing the matter for hearing on February 3. On March 13, 2020, Sengar was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by the trial court, besides imposition of a fine of ₹10 lakh, in the case of the death of the survivor’s father in custody. The trial court had said “no leniency” could be shown for killing a …
