West Bengal Budget LIVE: Bengal Finance Minister pledges to fill up 1 lakh govt vacancies, 33% of which will be for women

Bengal’s first BJP budget likely to balance welfare spend, debt reduction and industry reforms The BJP government’s first full budget in West Bengal, to be presented in the Assembly on Monday (June 22, 2026), is expected to strike a balance between sustaining welfare commitments and pursuing fiscal consolidation amid one of the heaviest debt burdens among major States. Officials said the budget is likely to adhere to the BJP’s poll promises while signalling a shift from cash transfer-led welfare measures towards employment generation, industrial growth and revenue mobilisation. In its Interim Budget earlier this year, the previous TMC government had estimated expenditure of ₹4.06 lakh crore, of which ₹1.68 lakh crore, or 41.4%, was earmarked for the social sector. – PTI Disclaimer: We do not own any of the content, ideas, images, or text presented here. ‘Yadav bharti’ to ‘reservation audit’: Amid UP job vacancies row, SP flips narrative on BJP | Political Pulse News

‘Yadav bharti’ to ‘reservation audit’: Amid UP job vacancies row, SP flips narrative on BJP | Political Pulse News

As hundreds of aspirants from Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Scheduled Caste (SC) communities crawled on their bellies in the scorching heat outside Uttar Pradesh Education Minister Sandeep Singh’s residence in Lucknow on Monday, the Samajwadi Party (SP) moved swiftly to fold the protest into its broader political pitch through the “PDA Arakshan Audit” ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The visuals from the protest over the stalled 69,000 assistant teachers’ recruitment process have provided fresh ammunition to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s ongoing “PDA Aarakshan Audit” campaign. Through the initiative, the party is attempting to reclaim the social justice narrative and consolidate non-Yadav OBCs, Most Backward Classes (MBCs), Dalits and minorities under its PDA — Pichda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak — umbrella. For years, the BJP accused the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP government of promoting “Yadav bharti” — favouring members of the Yadav community in government recruitment and postings between 2012 and 2017. The narrative is widely seen to have helped the BJP consolidate non-Yadav OBCs and MBCs, while also expanding its support among non-Jatav Dalits. In a …

Crowds swell for pind clinic vacancies in state, spotlight on Punjab’s job crisis | Chandigarh News

4 min readApr 21, 2026 09:58 AM IST Many candidates turned up at the Civil Surgeon office in Punjab’s Sangrur Monday for just 117 ‘pind clinic in-charge’ vacancies underlining the prevailing unemployment and highlighting the stark gap between demand and supply of jobs in the state. The rush was particularly striking because the job is temporary and the candidates will only be paid Rs 620 per day. The candidates at the venue, meanwhile, alleged lack of basic arrangements such as drinking water despite the scorching heat. Looking at the heavy turnout, Civil Surgeon (Sangrur) Dr Amarjeet Kaur said, “Hundreds have turned up for the vacancies of pind clinic in-charge and we are busy attending to them… we will continue tomorrow… (as we could not attend all the candidates today).” As per the eligibility criteria, candidates must have one of these: a B.Sc in Nursing, a diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM), Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM), be a pharmacist with a diploma or degree in pharmacy. Case backlog, vacancies cripple consumer courts across India: Report

Case backlog, vacancies cripple consumer courts across India: Report

India’s consumer dispute redressal system is grappling with severe structural challenges, with mounting case pendency and widespread vacancies significantly undermining its effectiveness, according to the Consumer Justice Report 2026 released on Wednesday. The report, published by the India Justice Report, was unveiled by former Supreme Court judge Justice (Retd.) Sanjay Kishan Kaul, who raised concerns over the weakening institutional capacity of consumer commissions. Pendency, vacancies erode consumer confidence The report reveals that more than half of all president and member posts in State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions (SCDRCs) were vacant in 2025. Simultaneously, over one-third of cases in these commissions have been pending for more than three years. This is in stark contrast to the mandate under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, which envisages the timely disposal of cases. “Legislation loses meaning if the institutions tasked with implementing it are rendered non-functional,” Kaul said, adding that such gaps erode public trust in grievance redressal systems. Andhra Pradesh tops rankings, Maharashtra at 11 The report ranks states based on 11 indicators, including infrastructure, human resources, budget …

A parliamentary panel has asked the government to institutionalise a system of maintaining a reserve panel or waitlist, in consultation with recruiting agencies, to fill vacancies in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is facing a 14.90% shortage of officers and is not receiving sufficient and suitable nominations from state police forces that have traditionally been a major source of induction. Representational image. (PTI) The committee also recommended undertaking a detailed root cause analysis to examine the reasons for attrition in the sub-inspector cadre in the federal anti-corruption agency. The 160th report of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, chaired by Brij Lal of the Bharatiya Janata Party, noted that against a sanctioned strength of 7,300 posts, the CBI currently has an in-position strength of 6,212 personnel, leaving a shortfall of 1,088 posts (14.90%). To be sure, the vacancies in the CBI in 2025 have reduced to 14.90% from 20.57% in 2024. Asserting that a vacancy level of nearly 15% in a premier probe agency is a matter …

SC directs states to fill vacancies in open prisons within fixed timeline

SC directs states to fill vacancies in open prisons within fixed timeline

In a bid to ensure that open prisons function as meaningful and effective institutions of reformation and rehabilitation, the Supreme Court on Thursday directed all states and Union territories to develop a time-bound protocol for filling up existing vacancies in Open Correctional Institutions (OCI) and open barracks. Semi-open or open prisons allow convicts to work outside the premises during the day to earn a livelihood and return in the evening. The concept was introduced to assimilate convicts with society and reduce psychological pressure as they faced difficulties in leading normal lives outside. Issuing a slew of directions, the top court said prisons are institutions of correction, where dignity, self-respect and social reintegration are not aspirational ideals but constitutional necessities.A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta directed the states and Union territories (UTs) to submit the protocol to their respective monitoring committees within a period of three months. It said all states and UTs shall ensure that OCIs do not function merely as labour camps or spaces of custodial convenience. “Ensure that the …
