Delhi EV policy: Only electric auto-rickshaws to be registered in from 2027

The Delhi government has approved a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy that offers a 100 per cent exemption from road tax and registration fees for electric cars priced at Rs 30 lakh or less (ex-showroom), reported the PTI. The policy was approved by the Delhi Cabinet on Monday and will come into effect from 1 July. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government will invest around Rs 15,000 crore over the next four years to promote electric mobility and reduce vehicular pollution in the national capital, according to the PTI. She said the policy is a major step towards making Delhi a pollution-free city by March 31, 2030. Purchase incentives for EV buyers To encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles, the government has announced financial incentives for buyers, the news agency reported. Thinking of buying a new car or two-wheeler in Telangana? You can save yourself a trip to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) office for the registration. Telangana’s transport department has reportedly launched a dealer-point registration initiative for people under which new cars and bikes can be registered directly at authorised showrooms. Following the successful run, it was announced that all newly bought vehicles can be permanently registered at their respective authorised showrooms. (AFP/Representative image) A policy decision to facilitate this move was taken earlier this month, with a 15-day window, assigned by Telangana Transport Commissioner K Ilambarithi, for the development of the required software, the New Indian Express said in a report on Saturday. The first run was conducted at an automobile showroom on Friday, January 23, as part of which a four-wheeler was successfully registered and delivered to the customer in Telangana. Telangana Government Announces Massive Discount On Pending Traffic Challans

Reports say about 2 crore traffic challans are pending across the state. The Telangana government on Tuesday launched a scheme for citizens to pay pending challans at only a fraction of the original value. Under the scheme, the state government is offering 60-90 per cent discount on the traffic challan amount. The one-time settlement scheme will remain open from December 26 to January 10. However, several users complained of not being able to get the declared discount and shared several posts on X tagging Hyderabad Police. A government order (GO) was soon issued to clarify all doubts. As per the government order, 90 per cent discount will be offered to owners of push carts. They will have to pay only 10 per cent of the challan amount, while the remaining 90 per cent will be waived. The same discount is offered to RTC drivers. As per the orders the percentage of challans are divided according to the category of the vehicle. The push carts and TSRTC buses are to pay 10% of the challan amount …

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has allowed the conversion of regular vehicle registrations into Bharat Series (BH) numbers as part of measures to widen the scope of the BH series ecosystem. Earlier, only new vehicles could opt for the BH series mark. In an official statement, the MoRTH said over the course of the implementation of BH series registration mark rules, several representations have been received towards strengthening the BH series ecosystem. “Vehicles currently having regular registration mark can also be converted to BH series registration mark, subject to payment of requisite tax, to facilitate persons who subsequently become eligible for BH series registration mark,” the statement said. The ministry has also proposed an amendment in rule 48 to provide flexibility to submit an application for the BH series either at the place of residence or place of work with a view to providing further ease of life to the citizen.
