Narrative on rift in KC(M) fake, Minister didn’t violate discipline with Pala remarks: Jose K. Mani

Kerala Congress (M) chairman Jose K. Mani on Saturday attempted to downplay the reports of a perceived rift between him and party leader and Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine, saying such media narratives were fake. Mr. Mani reiterated that there was nothing wrong in Mr. Augustine’s remarks over his candidature in Pala Assembly constituency in the upcoming elections. Speaking to the media here on the final day of the central Kerala leg of the Left Democratic Front’s (LDF) pre-election Vikasana Munnetta Jatha, Mr. Mani said that there was no violation of party discipline in Mr. Augustine’s statement that the party chairman will contest from Pala. “Mr. Augustine only said that the party will decide, not that the party has decided. Everybody has the freedom to voice their opinion. His intention was good,” Mr. Mani said, adding, on a lighter note, that he liked the comment too. He said he shared a brotherly bond with Mr. Augustine. “Kerala Congress (M) also wishes that I contest, but it’s upto the party to decide,” Mr. Mani said. He …

Vaping video row: There will be action against those who violate House decorum, says Om Birla | India News

THE Trinamool Congress MP who was allegedly vaping inside the Lok Sabha chamber could face “exemplary punishment” as maintaining the dignity of Parliament is non-negotiable, said Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. “There will be action against those who have violated the dignity of Parliament. No one has the right to undermine the sanctity of the House,” Birla told reporters at a press meet on the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth, being hosted by Indian Parliament. During the Winter Session, BJP’s Anurag Thakur has alleged that “a TMC MP was sitting and smoking an e-cigarette” in the House despite such devices being banned across the country. Thakur had also submitted a written complaint to Birla without naming anyone. Later, the BJP shared a purported video clip in which TMC MP Kirti Azad appeared to be vaping in the Lok Sabha. The video clip has been sent to a forensic lab to verify its content and the report is expected in a few days, sources said. Once the report arrives, the Speaker …

Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav writes to High Court CJ: Stand by remarks, did not violate conduct | India News

A month after he was called by the Supreme Court Collegium over his remarks targeting Muslims at a Vishwa Hindu Parishad event in Prayagraj, Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court has written to the Chief Justice, saying he stands by his remarks which, he maintained, did not violate any principle of judicial conduct. Chief Justice Arun Bhansali of the High Court had sought Justice Yadav’s response following the latter’s meeting with the Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna on December 17. Earlier this month, The Indian Express reported that the CJI had written to Chief Justice Bhansali, seeking a fresh report on the issue. It is learnt that the letter seeking his response referred to a complaint against his speech filed by a law student and another by an IPS officer who had been compulsorily retired by the government. According to sources, Justice Yadav, in his reply, claimed his speech was being distorted by those with vested interests, and that members of the judiciary who could hardly defend themselves …

Apple’s Geo-Blocking Practices Could Violate EU Rules

Apple’s Geo-Blocking Practices Could Violate EU Rules

The European Commission has informed Apple that its geo-blocking practices, where services are limited or blocked in certain geographical locations, are potentially breaking the law. These practices have been identified on the App Store, Apple Arcade, Music, iTunes Store, Books, and Podcasts. The Commission, along with the Consumer Protection Cooperation Network, has three main issues relating to Apple’s geo-blocking, which it claims “unlawfully discriminates European consumers based on their place of residence.” Firstly, the company reportedly offers different interfaces for its services depending on the registered country of the Apple ID used, but it has made switching to that country difficult. The second is that consumers can only use payment methods, such as credit and debit cards, issued in their Apple ID’s registered country, creating challenges for those who relocate or travel within the bloc. Thirdly, European users cannot download apps hosted on App Stores in other E.U. countries, which limits their access to region-specific content. This is also important when travelling. An investigation by the Commission and CPC Network found that these geo-blocking practices …

Bail conditions must not violate civil rights: SC | Latest News India

The Supreme Court has reinforced that bail conditions should be proportionate, reasonable and directly linked to ensuring judicial proceedings rather than trampling upon an individual’s civil liberties. According to the top court, judicial discretion in bail matters ought to serve the criminal justice system’s objectives without encroaching on individual freedoms or civil matters. The judgment emphasised that any conditions imposed should be directly tied to facilitating justice, securing the accused’s presence, and preventing any misuse of freedom to interfere with the case or obstruct justice. YouTube will start warning comment spammers when they violate the rules

YouTube says it will begin to warn users when it’s spotted and removed their comments for violating the company’s guidelines, according a post signed by “Rob” at TeamYouTube. Big creators have been increasingly drawing awareness to comment spam on the platform, and this change and other updates shared Tuesday could help reduce the volume of spam. If the user keeps posting abusive comments, YouTube may block them from posting further for up to 24 hours. “Our testing has shown that these warnings / timeouts reduce the likelihood of users leaving violative comments again,” Rob writes in the post. The notification is only available for English comments for now, “but we hope to bring it to more languages in the coming months,” Rob says. The company has also improved its ability to detect spam in comments, as well as bots in live chats. Creators including Linus Tech Tips, Jacksepticeye, and MKBHD have all made videos this year about comment spam. The spam itself takes many different forms, but you might see waves of copy-pasted comments, comments …
