Special Chief Secretary begins probe into diarrhoea deaths in Vizianagaram district

Vijayanand on October 22 (Tuesday) began the probe into the reasons for the outbreak of diarrhoea and subsequent deaths in Gurla of Vizianagaram district. Mr. Vijayanand, along with Collector B.R. Ambedkar, interacted with the patients in Gurla and inspected the protected water scheme at SSR Peta. He also spoke to the senior officials of Panchayat Raj, Rural Water Supply, and Health departments. The visit of Mr. Vijayanand assumed significance as the opposition parties highlighted the death of 10 persons and hospitalisation of nearly 140 persons. The parties alleged that the diarrhoea had spread to nearby villages too despite the claims of the government that the situation was under control. Diarrhoea outbreak in Vizianagaram: officials suspect water contamination

Authorities order closure of open borewells in the village as the rural water supply and medical and health departments confirmed that consumption of contaminated water was the main reason for the spread of the disease which hospitalised nearly 140 persons. Those affected are being treated in a special medical camp organised in the village. Rural Water Supply department’s Superintending Engineer, Uma Shankar said that water samples were collected from five private borewells and sent to laboratories for testing. “We will get reports in a couple of days. Chamber of Commerce urges government to allocate land for new market

Lack of space and narrow roads restricting the movement of both people and vehicles at PW Market in Vizianagaram. Vizianagaram Chamber of Commerce president Kapuganti Prakash on Saturday urged the government to allocate close to 10 acre of land for the construction of new market as the existing Prince Wallice (PW) Market is congested with narrow roads constructed many decades ago. He said that the old PW Market constructed during the British regime had hampered business activities due to lack of space, thereby, restricting the movement of vehicles carrying essential goods to the shops. According to him, lack of a storage facility is another challenge for the traders. 50 civic staff from Vizianagaram arrive in Vijayawada for flood relief ops

Vizianagaram Municipal Commissioner P. Nallanayya and other officials took part in relief operations in Vijayawada on Thursday. Vizianagaram Municipal Commissioner P. Nallanayya on Thursday (September 5, 2024) said that relief operations were being taken up by his team in flood-affected areas of Vijayawada. A team of 50 personnel, including engineers and sanitation staff, took up relief work in People’s Road, P.N.T. Colony, Sundarrao Raod, American Hospital Road and other places. Historic temples of Lord Shiva in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts have been decked up for the Maha Sivaratri celebrations from the early hours of Friday. Thousands of devotees from Srikakulam district and nearby Odisha offer prayers at the Srimukhalingam temple in Jalumuru mandal, Endala Mallikarjuna Swamy temple at Ravivalasa and Umarudra Koteswara Alayam in Srikakulam.
