Madhya Pradesh: Massive fire breaks out at warehouse in Indore’s Khajrana area

A major fire broke out at a warehouse in the Khajrana locality of Indore in Madhya Pradesh on Monday, prompting a large-scale firefighting operation by the fire department. The warehouse was reportedly stocked with materials used for decoration and event management. Thick smoke was seen billowing from the structure as emergency services rushed to the commercial area to contain the blaze. According to senior police officers, the SIT will be led by the superintendent of police of the Baruipur police district. Police sources further stated that two additional superintendents of the Baruipur police district, the inspector-in-charge of the local Narendrapur police station, and the existing investigating officer in the matter will also be part of the SIT. “Three people have been arrested in the matter and are being interrogated by the investigating officials. The owner, Gangadhar Das, was arrested from the Garia area of Kolkata and will be produced before a Baruipur court, police said. Earlier, an FIR was lodged against Das in connection with the fire that broke out late Sunday night at the factory and warehouse in Anandapur`s Nazirabad area. The incident took place when lamps were being lit on the occasion of Devuthani Ekadashi, and the owner of the warehouse was also injured, an official said. The blaze erupted in the warehouse located in the Rau area, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Alok Sharma told PTI. He said the bodies recovered from the warehouse were identified as those of Jyoti and Ramkali, both aged around 50. “Devuthani Ekadashi prayers were being performed at the warehouse. Owner Suraj Bhagwani sustained burns on both hands and was admitted to a nearby hospital. His condition is out of danger,” Mr. Sharma said. On April 12, Kyiv alleged a Russian missile struck the Indian firm’s warehouse, and accused Russia of “deliberately” targeting Indian businesses in Ukraine.
