Husband, brother-in-law booked for alleged dowry death of woman in UP
Police have booked a man and his elder brother for allegedly strangling his 22-year-old wife to death over dowry demands in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, an official told news agency PTI on Wednesday. The woman’s family alleged that she was strangled to death on July 7 after facing nearly a year of harassment over dowry. The accused have been identified as Vijendra and his elder brother Vinod, residents of Avrai Kala Pahi village in Ballia’s Bhimpura area. The first information report (FIR) was registered on Tuesday at Bhimpura Police Station based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Ashish, a resident of Lilari village in neighbouring Mau district. According to the FIR, Ashish’s sister Suman married Vijendra on June 16, 2025. The complainant alleged that soon after the marriage, Suman was subjected to harassment by her husband and brother-in-law over dowry demands.
