Chip Design Program Empowers the Apple Workforce of Tomorrow

The U.S. has struggled with a worker shortage in semiconductor chip making, and even educating people about the field’s existence has proved challenging. In response, Apple and other companies have dedicated considerable money and time to addressing the skills gap and broken pipeline. Apple began the New Silicon Initiative, a series of grants to tech-focused universities nationwide, to develop more skilled workers in designing and manufacturing chips. The initiative funds education and training in microelectronic circuits and hardware design. Eight universities participate, chosen for their engineering savvy and commitment to scaling up courses in creating integrated circuits. One participant is Georgia Tech’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Ageing population, labour shortage: Why Germany needs Indian workforce | India News

Ageing population, labour shortage: Why Germany needs Indian workforce | India News

Addressing reporters alongside visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Germany has decided to raise the annual visa quota for skilled Indian professionals from 20,000 to 90,000. While this fourfold increase will enhance economic and professional ties between the two countries, the move is also designed to make up for labour shortage that Germany might be facing owing to an ageing population. In 2014, around 27% of the German population was 60 and above, a number that is expected to touch 35% by 2030, as per statistics. The increased quota will come in handy in labour-intensive sectors such as nurses and elderly care, childcare, truck drivers and middle-level jobs in the engineering and IT sectors. Talking to reporters in New Delhi later in the day, visiting German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said, “In Indian society, there are so many young skilled people driving the labour market. In Germany, we need labour. This could be a win-win situation for the people in India and Germany.” According to the latest figures …

Bandai Namco Begins to Cut Workforce After Cancelling Games

Video game publisher Bandai Namco Holdings is cutting its workforce after canceling several titles due to lackluster demand, according to people familiar with the matter. Since April, affiliate Bandai Namco Studios has moved about 200 of its roughly 1,300 employees to such rooms and nearly 100 have resigned, said the people. More are expected to leave in coming months, they said. Such oidashi beya, or “expulsion rooms,” are sometimes used by Japanese corporations in a country with some of the world’s strictest labor-protection laws. Employees are typically given no work-related tasks, but are left with the knowledge that their performance will give managers ammunition to cut severance when they do leave. Many employees use their time in such rooms to look for other jobs. Bandai Namco said its goal is not to push …

Team, Our business is in a difficult position, and it is hard to overstate the challenges we face together. Beyond navigating our current environment, restoring our company requires tough decisions and we will have to make structural changes to ensure we can stay competitive and deliver for our customers over the long term. We need to be clear-eyed about the work we face and realistic about the time it will take to achieve key milestones on the path to recovery. We also need to focus our resources on performing and innovating in the areas that are core to who we are, rather than spreading ourselves across too many efforts that can often result in underperformance and underinvestment. With that in mind, today I am sharing some difficult decisions and several program updates:  On the 777X program, the challenges we have faced in development, as well as from the flight test pause and ongoing work stoppage, will delay our program timeline. We have notified customers that we now expect first delivery in 2026. We plan to build …
