During the financial years 2024–25 and 2025–26, environmental clearance was granted to 20 infrastructure projects and activities, either wholly or partly located within Protected Areas (PAs) or Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZs)/Eco-Sensitive Areas (ESAs), the Centre informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Responding to a query in the Upper House, Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh said the existing regulatory framework prescribes project-specific environmental safeguards as part of the environmental clearance conditions to avoid, minimise and mitigate adverse environmental impacts. The safeguards include measures related to wildlife protection, habitat conservation, pollution control, compensatory afforestation, and environmental monitoring, he said. Singh added that the approval process also involves a scientific appraisal and scrutiny, ensuring that adequate safeguards are incorporated to protect ecologically sensitive landscapes. He further said that proposals requiring Wildlife Clearance for projects located within Protected Areas, Eco-Sensitive Zones or forest areas undergo a multi-tiered scrutiny process involving the State Chief Wildlife Warden and the State Board for Wildlife. “Thereafter, the proposals are scrutinised by the Ministry and the Standing Committee …

Sources said the ACSU, which is responsible for monitoring integrity, preventing spot-fixing and enforcing security protocols in the league, has informed the BCCI that several companies are actively marketing and selling smart eyewear products to players and team personnel participating in the IPL. According to sources, the ACSU flagged that these smart devices are capable of live-streaming, sending and receiving text messages, and making audio and video calls through mobile data or Wi-Fi networks, raising concerns over unauthorised communication and potential misuse during matches. Complete results are yet to be declared as counting of ballot papers is still underway, officials said. Polling was held on December 14 to elect members for 347 zones of 22 zila parishads and 2,838 zones of 153 panchayat samitis. In zila parishad, the results of 317 zones have been declared so far and of which, the AAP registered victory in 201 zones. The civil administration has started identifying locations where damaged houses can be repaired and residents can be relocated without compromising their safety. There are currently over 50,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur, all of whom wish to return to their homes. According to sources, the administration and the state government are making extensive efforts to ensure that these displaced people are accommodated in proper housing. Sources told News18 that several sites are being identified in fringe areas where people from both the Meitei and Kuki communities can be relocated.
